You like contributing to their academic, social and emotional development during this important developmental stage; setting them up for success in their future. An advocate, a guide and a strong supporter of your students - that’s you. Just as in life outside the classroom, you believe that students with different backgrounds, gender identities, and learning abilities benefit from working together. Supporting your students energizes you. You love coming to school to work with them. You are solution oriented and like to contribute to a positive, enjoyable working environment.
As a lifelong learner, you are excited by new ideas, professional learning and you enjoy sharing your learning with your colleagues. You understand team dynamics and work well with teams of other educators and with administrators. You are an excellent communicator and see parents as your partners in their child's education. When making decisions, you focus on how we can best serve our students and parents, always looking for a way in which we can make ASH just that extra bit better for them. You recognize that learning is not confined to a classroom or a timetable. You are independent and confident in the classroom. Having an open mind and being able to give and receive constructive feedback is something you pride yourself on.

You present the ability to flexibly move between service delivery models (co-planning, co-teaching, consulting, targeted content support and /or intervention etc.). You have strong technology skills that support learning and organization. Knowledge and understanding of the physical and emotional development of secondary school age students are crucial in this role as well as a broad interdisciplinary knowledge of standard secondary school curricula.
The Role: Your role is supervised by the Student Service Director and involves close collaboration with the Student Support Team. Vertical and horizontal collaboration is key to this role. As a member of the strong team and instructional teachers, you will work both independently and with teams of other teachers, specialists and with the school administration.
The Work: As a Learning Support Teacher, your daily activities involve helping the students use the many learning tools we have, and enable them to become independent learners and problem solvers. You will plan, prepare, and deliver small-group intervention to students. You will utilize data-based decision making and evidence-based strategies to plan, communicate and deliver high quality academic support in content area classrooms and in small groups. You will support the planning and implementation of accommodations for students in the classroom that are determined by student need and class content.
You will serve as case manager to identified students, including:
- Gather relevant background information related to students’ academic strengths and challenges
- Maintain updated and accurate student information files
