Welcome to American School of The Hague, where we offer a learner-centered, American curriculum modified for the needs of the school's international student and parent population. The school's mission speaks for itself: “American School of The Hague nurtures and inspires character, commitment, creativity, and learning.” These are not just platitudes; they represent the filter through which all of us connected with the school, from the trustees on down, process every decision we make. The student body is approximately 27% U.S. and 12% Dutch, with the remaining 61% coming from over 77 other nationalities, mirroring the diversity of cultures that make The Hague such a rich environment. Students come mainly from the international business and diplomatic community, but the many Dutch families add a host country flavor to the school's multicultural mix. The school is comprised of 3 divisions - elementary school (from preschool through grade 4), middle school (grades 5 - 8), and high school (grades 9 - 12). At American School of The Hague, the instructional approach focuses on the close but respectful student-teacher relationships that characterize American education. The curriculum includes Advanced Placement courses and the International Baccalaureate diploma, and is broad enough to suit the needs of our diverse population. We follow the AASL's standards for the 21st-century learner and believe in self-renewal and searching out best practices so that students may participate in a rich, educational experience. Students, in turn, are active, intelligent, and creative learners. These positive attitudes unite us across all levels at the school.
