UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a contract within the Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Services in our Office in The Hague, The Netherlands.
Established in December 1950, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect and assist refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. UNHCR works in over 130 countries to protect and care for over 120 million people.
UNHCR has traditionally been funded by voluntary contributions from member states. In addition, due to the enormous growth in the number of people fleeing, fundraising in the private sector has become increasingly important.
In the current global context, new support for and deeper engagement in the refugee cause is essential. Particularly, expanding private sector fundraising to broaden the donor base is imperative in times of ever-growing humanitarian needs and increased competition over scarce governmental resources.
UNHCR’s Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) plays a crucial role in helping expand the organization’s funding base, by raising funds from both individual giving and private sector sources, ensuring a sustainable and predictable stream of income.
The position falls within the Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) team, which is responsible for raising funds from, and establishing strategic partnerships with corporations, major donors, and foundations. It is a new, cross-cutting (benefitting all PPH income streams) position within the team, focusing on engagement of donors and partners, visibility among relevant target groups, and securing financial and beyond the dollar support. The position gives an excellent opportunity to establish, cultivate and manage diverse relationships with corporations, major donors and foundations, securing financial support through corporate third-party fundraising campaigns, securing in-kind support, and other (strategic) Private Sector Engagement (PSE) projects. All to help secure support for UNHCR programs worldwide.
Purpose and Scope of Assignment:
Under the supervision of the Associate PSP Officer (PPH), the Assistant PPH Officer will provide support to the PPH fundraising colleagues on Private Sector Engagement with corporates, (U)HNWI and foundations with the aim to help secure long-term income for UNHCR programmes. The Assistant PPH Officer is expected to work closely with the Netherlands PSP team, Branch Office NL and the rest of the PSP network as required.
The main tasks and responsibilities of the Assistant PPH Officer will be to:
• Coordinate international corporate third-party fundraising campaigns, events and employee engagement activities;
• Initiate and lead on building new partnership opportunities with companies, major donors and foundations in the Netherlands, in line with the private sector engagement strategy;
• Liaise with existing partners and donors to further build and cultivate them in line with the private sector engagement strategy;
• Support the efforts of the PSP NL team to strengthen UNHCR's positioning as a go-to partner for the private sector in the Netherlands;
• Further raise awareness of UNHCR among PPH target groups, including communication opportunities;
• Initiate and lead on building other PSE projects, e.g. developing a UNHCR specific emergency simulation;
