The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop and scale technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic and to achieve our mission, we must effectively tell our story to a broad range of stakeholders.
Having worked in a media and content creation environment, you understand that communications and storytelling have a unique and central role to play within The Ocean Cleanup. Our main task is to oversee the day-to-day management of one of our most important assets: our brand, driving funding, understanding and engagement from stakeholders globally. We are looking for top talent to join us in this exciting work to continuously uphold and improve our image, educate, inform, and drive positive action.
You will support this mission by ensuring that all communications are ‘on brand’ to amplify the impact of our work. Reporting to the Head of Media and Communications, you will assist in strategically and effectively telling the innovative story of The Ocean Cleanup to key audiences.
The Content Manager reports to the Head of Media and Communications.

The Content Manager reports to the Head of Media and Communications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow strategic content narratives aligned with organizational goals, such as ocean conservation, rivers, and recycled catch, to increase visibility and awareness.
- Develop, write, and edit compelling web content, blog posts, op-eds, newsletters, and other materials to effectively communicate key organizational messages and initiatives.
- Departmental collaboration offering guidance across the organization and creating content that enhances the organization’s visibility, thought leadership, and engagement across digital platforms.
- Build and maintain relationships with content creators, influencers, and media outlets to amplify the organization’s messaging and secure high-quality coverage.
- Contribute to and implement content planning aligned with annual, quarterly, and project-specific goals, ensuring consistency with the organization’s objectives.
- Conduct research and analysis to develop relevant and impactful content tailored to target audiences.
- Utilize analytics tools to monitor engagement, adjust content strategies, and optimize reach across digital platforms.
- Support the organization’s partnerships and participation in events and conferences by creating targeted content.

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- At least three years’ experience in content creation, digital media, or related roles within in-house teams or agencies.
- Proven experience in developing engaging web content, blog posts, newsletters, and multimedia materials.
- Strong understanding of content management systems (CMS), SEO best practices, and digital analytics tools.
- Experience working with external agencies or influencers is an advantage.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent, native standard, written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Exceptional attention to detail and storytelling ability.
- Self-motivated, innovative, and proactive mindset.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Passionate about environmental issues and aligned with the organization’s mission.
- Ability to adapt content strategies based on data insights and stakeholder feedback.

- Starting date: As soon as possible;
- Location : The role is based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
- Work permit: A valid European Union work permit is required for this position.
