Role: Junior Project Officer (Internship) – Public Events and Storytelling

The Hague Humanity Hub is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive intern to support our public engagement activities. This internship is an opportunity to help bring peace and justice themes closer to broader audiences in The Hague through accessible events, conversations, storytelling, and community-oriented programming.

Are you a motivated student with an interest in event coordination, public communication, storytelling, social impact, and community engagement? Would you like to gain hands-on experience in a mission-driven organisation at the heart of The Hague’s peace and justice ecosystem? Then we would love to hear from you.

Your Role

As Public Events and Storytelling intern, you will support the design, planning, and delivery of public-facing activities that connect the work of peace and justice organisations with wider audiences. You will work with the programme team, communications colleagues, local partners, speakers, and community organisations to help make complex societal themes accessible, relevant, and engaging. You will gain practical experience in event coordination, partner communication, storytelling, and audience engagement, while contributing to the Humanity Hub’s mission of supporting a more peaceful and just world.

Main Responsibilities

Public events

  • Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of public-facing events, including dialogues, Movie Nights, Open Days, Democracy Drinks, and Fireside Peace Chats.
  • Help with event logistics, speaker coordination, briefing documents, registrations, and partner communication
  • Support moderation and facilitation where appropriate
  • Identify relevant themes, speakers, partners, and public engagement opportunities

Storytelling & communication

  • Help create accessible written and visual content for the Humanity Hub’s website, newsletters, social media, and event communication
  • Write interviews, portraits, and storytelling content that makes the stories, perspectives, and impact of changemakers in our community accessible to a broad audience
  • Translate complex societal themes and community initiatives into clear, accessible, and inspiring stories for a broad audience

Partner & community engagement

  • Support contact with local organisations, cultural venues, speakers, partners, and community contributors
  • Help connect public engagement activities with the wider peace and justice community in The Hague
  • Represent the Humanity Hub at selected external and partner events
  • Support outreach and relationship-building with relevant organisations and initiatives

What you bring

  • A genuine interest in the Humanity Hub community and a commitment to a more peaceful and just world
  • A curious, friendly personality with the ability to remain calm, responsive, and solution-oriented
  • You are punctual, well-organised, detail-oriented, proactive, and able to multitask
  • A flexible attitude, willing to switch between tasks, support where needed, and suggest improvements
  • Ideally, you have experience with event management and facilitation
  • Strong written and spoken Dutch and English skills. Dutch is required because many activities are aimed at local audiences in The Hague
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • You can work independently and collaborate within a team. You are open to feedback and use it to learn and improve
  • Flexible availability to support events when needed

Criteria

  • You are studying or have studied in a relevant field, for example communication, public relations, event management, cultural programming, international relations, political science, development studies, or business management
  • You are legally permitted to do an internship in the Netherlands
  • You live in or near The Hague
  • You can work at least 4 days per week, 32 hours
  • You are available for the full duration of the internship, September to the end of February

What we offer

  • An internship allowance of €400 per month, based on 32 hours per week
  • Paid vacation days, 8 days based on 32 hours per week
  • Hybrid working, 25% of working time
  • 40% discount on all food and drinks in the Hub Café
  • Free access to events and workshops
  • The chance to build your network with leading innovators and changemakers
  • A valuable learning experience to develop your professional and social skills in a challenging but supportive environment
  • The opportunity to play a proactive role in the development of the Humanity Hub
