Candidates must be eligible for a security personal clearance from an EU Member State national security administration

What is expected from you:

As part of the activities within the technical directorate, the selected candidate will contribute to ESA engineering activities aimed at advancing resilient GNSS technologies and RF system capabilities. This effort focuses on enhancing technological solutions for robust positioning, navigation, and timing performance in the presence of interference and jamming, supporting both operational and programmatic objectives.

The activity centres on the development and validation of advanced solutions for GNSS receiver resilience and antenna technologies, including the exploitation of experimental datasets and laboratory infrastructures. The work will support the demonstration, testing, and refinement of advanced techniques for interference mitigation, performance monitoring, and system validation within ESA R&D and Third Party Services (TPS) activities.

The candidate will contribute to engineering activities related to resilient GNSS receivers and antenna systems and will be expected to:

  • Support navigation-related activities within the service, focusing on resilient GNSS receiver processing, interference mitigation, and performance assessment
  • Develop, maintain, and evolve software tools and simulation environments for the analysis of receiver and antenna performance under jamming and degraded RF conditions
  • Exploit and analyse jammer test datasets, deriving performance metrics and validating mitigation techniques
  • Define and implement corresponding SW/HW tools and laboratory setups, execute tests, and report technical results, conclusions, and recommendations
  • Support ESA R&D and Third Party Services (TPS) activities, including experimental campaigns, technical analyses, and reporting
  • Contribute to NavLab and RF laboratory activities, ensuring effective use of test infrastructures and tools
  • Report technical results from project and internal activities through technical notes, reports, and presentations, as required by TEC-SEI

What you offer :

  • University degree (MSc minimum) in telecommunications, electronic engineering, aerospace engineering or computer science
  • Experience in GNSS navigation, signal processing, and performance analysis, with focus on resilience to interference and jamming
  • Good knowledge of GNSS receiver processing chains (acquisition, tracking, positioning) and robust PNT techniques
  • Experience in analysis and exploitation of RF or jammer test data and performance validation
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of simulation tools and laboratory test setups
  • Familiarity with RF test environments and laboratory-based validation activities
  • Experience with software development in Python, MATLAB, and/or C/C++
