Lead Engineer Electrical (Datacenter Power Distribution)

Are you able to realize monitor and plan engineering projects in the datacenter business? As a Lead Engineer Electrical, you will be responsible for the engineering and realization of projects in the field of power distribution in the international data Centre industry. The Lead Engineer is responsible for the technical solution and ensures that it is realised within agreed timeline and budget.

In this position, you will work for the Electrical Engineering team for data centres, which consists of around 30 engineers. We are looking for a Lead Engineer Electrical to fit into this close-knit and driven team. The Electrical Engineering team is part of the "Data Centre Electrification & Automation" department, which is responsible for realizing multidisciplinary projects internationally. The engineering department consists of about 100 plus engineers divided over 7 different discipline groups.

The department falls under the Smart Infrastructure division; one of the world's largest suppliers of products, systems, solutions and services for the sustainable, reliable and efficient transmission and distribution of energy.

What are your responsibilities?

The Lead Engineer is responsible for the overall engineering execution within the project. A key aspect of the role is leading, managing, and guiding engineers across multiple discipline groups who, under the responsibility of the Lead Engineer, develop detailed engineering designs. The project scope includes engineering, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning of power distribution systems such as medium and low voltage switchgear, transformers, power distribution units, busbar systems, digital protection, automation and monitoring systems, and modular solutions such as E-Houses and Skids. The Lead Engineer maintains a holistic overview and ensures that all technical designs and disciplines are functionally aligned and delivered within the agreed budget and schedule. Given the short lead times and high technical expectations of our customers, the Lead Engineer operates in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, requiring effective prioritization and structured communication.

In addition to coordinating with internal stakeholders such as Project Management, Procurement, Document Control, and Engineering teams, the Lead Engineer plays a key role in communication and alignment. This includes:

  • Acting as the primary technical interface towards the client, ensuring clear, transparent, and professional communication.
  • Translating complex technical concepts into understandable messages for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Facilitating regular alignment meetings, driving decision-making, and ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged.
  • Managing expectations and resolving technical or coordination issues through constructive dialogue.

Work primarily takes place from our office in The Hague, the Netherlands, with regular visits to factories and project sites both domestically and internationally. These visits include supervising factory acceptance tests, participating in client meetings, and coordinating on-site activities, where clear communication and stakeholder engagement are essential.

What do you need?

  • Strong ability to develop, communicate, and execute engineering and project plans, ensuring alignment across stakeholders;
  • Proven experience in preparing and presenting technical reports, specifications, and test plans in a clear and structured manner;
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate ideas, actively listen, and adapt communication to different audiences;
  • Ability to lead discussions, facilitate meetings, and drive decisions in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment;
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence outcomes, and manage expectations (internally and externally);
  • Commercial and political awareness, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and handle challenging or critical situations professionally;
  • Coaching and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, guide, and develop engineers through constructive feedback and open communication;
  • Practical and theoretical experience with low and medium voltage systems, including switchgear, transformers, short-circuit and selectivity calculations, and relevant standards such as IEC 61439;
  • Preferably an EU national with knowledge of the Dutch language, due to travel requirements and client interaction;
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with at least 7 years of experience as a (Lead) Engineer in multidisciplinary electrotechnical projects;
  • Experience working in multicultural teams, demonstrating cultural awareness and effective cross-border communication;
  • Flexible and willing to travel regularly for short business trips;
  • Stress-resistant, with the ability to remain calm, structured, and communicative under pressure.
