Critical Power Solution Engineer

Are you a creative Critical Power Architect who wants to shape reliable, efficient and more sustainable power infrastructure for hyperscale and colocation data centres? If so, we - as a trendsetter and market leader in energy management and distribution - might be looking for you!

Due to our continued growth, we are hiring an additional Critical Power Architect to build long-term, positive relationships with our clients. In this role you are responsible for the design, optimisation and implementation support of the main electrical infrastructure of a Data Center - from grid connection and MV distribution down to LV distribution to the IT load. You will be customer-facing and actively involved during both the sales (capture) and project execution phases. Our clients include leading data centre operators, consultants, engineering partners and (electrical) contractors.

Working within Sales, you are the technical conscience and the eyes and ears of our customers. We don’t wait - we take initiative. You translate "That sounds interesting" into an engineered solution, a compelling value proposition and, ultimately, a contract. Join our team and we will give you access to the latest knowledge and the independence to act autonomously. Our ideal candidate has a creative and critical mind, speaks up when it matters, and conveys complex technical information to different audiences and levels (operators, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders).

Responsibilities

  • Design the end-to-end critical power architecture for a Data Center (MV and LV distribution), including all relevant interfaces (mechanical, controls, civil and IT/operations).
  • Translate employer’s requirements, concept designs and design outline letters into engineered solutions and clear deliverables (single line diagrams, load lists, interface definitions, technical narratives and solution descriptions).
  • Own and defend key design choices, including their functional, programme and financial impact (risk, cost, lead time, maintainability and efficiency). Further develop the technical relationship with end-clients, consultants and contractors.
  • Support the sales organisation in capture activities: technical strategy, bid/no-bid input, clarifications, value engineering, and solution alignment with customer evaluation criteria.
  • Work closely with Siemens (international) capture and execution teams and our factories to integrate a complete solution: MV and LV switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, battery energy storage, automation/monitoring, and supporting systems (e.g., HVAC/CRAH) - often delivered in modular E-Houses or pre-assembled steel structures (skids).

Day-to-day activities

  • Review customer requirements and site constraints; turn them into an initial architecture (topology, redundancy philosophy, key equipment ratings and space assumptions).
  • Develop and iterate electrical concept deliverables: single line diagrams, load schedules, preliminary protection philosophy, earthing approach, short-circuit/thermal assumptions, and interface lists.
  • Coordinate with internal specialists (MV/LV, transformers, UPS/batteries, automation/monitoring, mechanical, HVAC) and with external stakeholders (consultants, GC/MEP, operator) to close technical gaps and resolve interfaces.
  • Support bids and negotiations: answer technical queries, lead clarifications, provide compliance statements, propose alternatives/value engineering, and present solutions to customer teams.
  • During execution, stay involved as solution owner: review contractor/consultant drawings, attend design reviews, support factory/packaged-solution alignment (E-Houses/skids), and help manage changes and risks.
  • Maintain a view on lifecycle aspects: maintainability, commissioning approach, monitoring, expandability, and energy efficiency; capture lessons learned for future projects.

At Siemens in The Hague, the Center of Competence for Data Centers focuses on the realisation of multidisciplinary data centre projects globally - from early concept and customer engagement through to execution support and handover. Our team operates in a rapidly expanding environment with a strong focus on the latest developments in critical power and energy technology. We combine engineering know-how with the strength of our factories and delivery organisations.

Our portfolio includes power distribution and critical power systems such as medium and low voltage switchgear, MV/LV and LV/LV transformers, busbar systems, protective relays, automation and monitoring, UPS systems and battery systems. Depending on the project scope we also integrate supporting systems (e.g., HVAC/CRAH for electrical rooms) and deliver complete packaged solutions in modular structures like E-Houses and pre-assembled steel structures (skids).

Location:

Our main office is in The Hague, The Netherlands. But there are options to work from either our office in Chennai, India or from within the UK.

Your background

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Engineering and at least 8 years of experience in designing power transmission and distribution systems and/or projects ranging from medium voltage down to low voltage - ideally in critical environments such as Data Centers.
  • A generalist mindset: you understand how multiple systems come together (MV/LV switchgear, transformers, protection, UPS/batteries and supporting infrastructure) and you can drive the interfaces between them.
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines while staying sharp on the details (risks, assumptions, interfaces and compliance).
  • You have the resilience and determination to nurture both short and long design cycles, and the communication skills to explain trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A special interest in interface management (electrical, mechanical, controls and civil) and creativity to think beyond industry standards/practices. Familiarity with relevant standards (e.g., IEC) and data centre design principles is a strong plus.

Our offer

Join our team and help shape the future of smart critical power solutions for data centres in a role that combines technical ownership with customer interaction in an international environment.

A dynamic position in an informal but professional environment with enthusiastic colleagues who are passionate about their work. You will be working for a stable company with a strong brand and have access to an international network!
