Preserve and create value for Shell to ensure air transport operations are delivered at risk level, that is as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP). As an Aviation Operations Supervisor, this position provides Air Transport Technical Authority support and manages air transport exposure and services for Shell business units operating across the Central Region (Europe, Africa and the Middle East).
Your role is accountable for the management, oversight and continuous improvement of contracted air operations; for ensuring robust air operations emergency response and for providing technical expertise and assurance. In addition, you will also be responsible for delivering air transport safety and cost‑performance targets while functioning; as the Air Operations Supervisor for all the air transport activities in the Central Region.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your role is accountable for delivering air transport technical authority support, contract management, aviation assurance, emergency response, and safety oversight, along with additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Aircraft Services – Central. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to following:
AIR TRANSPORT TECHNICAL AUTHORITY / ASSURANCE
Achieve and maintain Air Transport technical competency and be prepared to provide technical support, augment, assist or on short-term basis fill-in for other individual technical authorities as directed by the Head of Aircraft Services – Central
Provide direction, advice and support to business unit staff to optimize the efficiency of Air Transport operations and drive the sharing and implementation of global best practices and Shell standards
Establish and maintain regular engagements with business unit leaders to ensure awareness and understanding of air transport safety, operational issues and the management of air transport risk
Manage the delivery of the Safety Case, its associated bowties (or equivalent) and integrate it with the annual air transport safety plan locally by providing the framework to ensure a robust safety culture exists within all air transport operations that are supported
Provide assurance that air transport operations are being carried out in compliance with local and Shell Aviation standards
CONTRACT MANAGEMENT
Manage both strategic and tactical contracts as the Contract Holder where appropriate and interface with air operators / vendors to ensure contractual compliance
Provide leadership, guidance and ensure air operator compliance with Shell standards and conduct regular air operator engagements and performance assessments
Direct and facilitate the development of metrics, scorecards and performance reporting of air transport related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
HEALTH, SAFETY, SECURITY, & ENVIRONMENT (HSSE) / EMERGENCY RESPONSE
Apply and implement the Air Transport Safety Case ensuring adherences for all major contracts and activities
Participate in safety assessments, incident reporting and investigations and incident risk assessments
Conduct facility (airport, airfield, heliport, helideck) audits and inspections in accordance with Shell standards
Support the Head of Aircraft Services – Central with specialist advice and technical expertise to facilitate the development, adoption and effective implementation of Aviation Safety Management Systems (SMS) and tools appropriate to the air transport activities undertaken across the Central Region meeting the requirements of the Shell standards
Provide rapid and sustained aviation response capability to support critical Emergency Response requirements in support of assigned business units
Lead and direct the delivery of air transport resources during Emergency Response activities.
Plan and coordinate SAR/MEDEVAC capabilities, that are adequate and available to meet Shell air transport response requirements and needs in execution of SAR/MEDEVAC missions
This staff position is based in Rotterdam on (regular) local terms of employment. Shell’s Aviation professionals are required to travel extensively (120 to 160 days annually) in support of the work and as such, must be able to travel anywhere in the world.
What We Need From You
Bachelor’s degree required plus a valid ATPL (preferred), CPL or A&P engineer license; military equivalents accepted
Extensive years of aviation experience, including leadership roles in the oil industry, aircraft operations or equivalent military organizations with a strong record of leading diverse, inclusive teams for compliance with local aviation regulations and recognized industry standards
Must meet the able to be successfully competency assessed as an Air Transport technical Authority (2) and meet all competency requirements required as contract holder
Possess aviation maintenance experience with awareness of scheduled/unscheduled maintenance, maintenance quality assurance principles and serviceability and dispatch requirements
Bring supply chain/logistics experience including awareness of time-distance considerations, aviation logistical support, budgeting and hazardous material by air handling
Demonstrate project management experience with strong understanding of project management techniques, budgeting and scheduling
Exhibit strong public speaking/briefing skills and ability to communicate effectively with senior management, external bodies and employees at all levels
Be physically able to work offshore, maintain Helicopter Underwater Escape Training certification and conduct offshore personnel transfers via personnel hoisting devices and other systems
(Desired) Offshore helicopter air transport experience
(Desired) Graduate of civilian or military courses in accident investigation, aviation safety/SMS, maintenance management or QA, experimental test pilot, military maintenance test pilot, factory pilot or maintenance and AS9100:2016 Lead Auditor (REV D)
(Desired) Hold FAA Part 107 (or equivalent RPAS) certification and be fluent in English language
