What’s the role?
Shell’s Onshore Renewables business is growing rapidly globally, driven by the Powering Progress Strategy.
To support this growth in Europe, Shell is recruiting a SCADA Engineer.
The SCADA Engineer will report to the Head of Delivery Engineering, Europe and is responsible for crafting technical scopes, developing contract exhibits, reviewing network designs and control philosophies. You will lead contractor kick-offs, answer requests for information, oversee field construction, perform field quality assurance audits, review testing documents, support commissioning of SCADA/PPC equipment, review completion of punch list items, and support handover of assets to the asset management team for operations of renewable power projects. You will work closely with the EPC Manager and Contracts & Procurement team mates to take projects from Development through to handover to Operations. Successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the Industrial Automation and Control System (IACS) complies with Shell process control cyber security policies.

More specific responsibilities include:
Champion and embed Goal Zero Safety mindset in delivery teams and contractors
Lead preparation of SCADA and control system design packages for inclusion in EPC contracts; compliant with permit, grid operator requirements, applicable internal and external codes, and standards
Support Delivery Engineers and EPC manager in preparation of EPC tender package, review of EPC proposals and contract negotiation
Manage SCADA engineering process and provide support to Delivery Engineering and EPC manager during engineering & detail design review, interconnection delivery, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project handover phases, including liaising with EPC contractor, global technology and engineering team, asset management team and external consultants
Lead technical meetings with SCADA vendors and EPC contractors
Support troubleshooting and resolution of applicable project engineering, construction, and performance issues as well as evaluation of new technologies
Undertake site visits to pre- and under construction projects
Lead analyses and sharing of key lessons learned
What we need from you
The successful candidate is a self-starter, team player, with strong SCADA and instrumentation controls experience possessing proven experience within the renewable power industry including a background of project delivery of grid connected utility scale solar photovoltaic projects. Wind or battery storage experience is a plus.
Relevant experience:
Experience and strong knowledge of computer, hardware, and network technologies
Experience with the Solar Scada systems, Power plant controllers
Knowledge of ISA/IEC 62443 cyber security framework
Experience with design and commissioning of Solar/Wind SCADA, PPC and DCS systems
Experience in dealing with design and setting up PPC for Hybrid projects
Experience in troubleshooting and working with 3rd party support services
Network, computer, DCS and SCADA system infrastructure technology
Experience with design and implementation of data management plans (storage, backup procedures, and remote access)
Experience with Shell record management requirements
Knowledge of industrial control protocols like Modbus, DNP3, IEC 60874-5, Profibus, IEC 61850, etc.
Experience with PLC based substation automation systems including installation, configuration, and programming
Experience in conducting onsite and document quality audits during various phases of the project
Experience in verifying mechanical completion, cold and hot commissioning phase of solar/Wind projects. Wind and battery storage experience is a plus
Education
University degree; Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent
Certifications in Cyber security is a plus
Required Skills/Competencies
Commercial acumen, to help increase project returns and reduce engineering-related costs
Willingness to travel at least 50% of the time and being able work efficiently and productively in remote locations
Flexible and open to discuss alternatives and evaluate projects under local country conditions
Culturally sensitive and ability to build strong relationships with Shell, partners and stakeholders
Strong communication skills, being able to present their idea within technical and non-technical audience
Ability to work as a team and adhere to the Shell internal process of working to deliver projects
Fluent in English. Ability to speak multiple languages is a plus, especially Spanish, Italian, German and/or French
