Early Careers Intern
Home Based
Full Time, FTC (6 Weeks)
£12.71p/h
Here at Serco, we're looking for a curious, motivated and people-focused Early Careers Intern to help us build something that genuinely matters: a clearer, more accessible pathway into work for young people across the UK.
This is a hands-on placement where your perspective isn't just welcomed, it's the whole point. We need someone who can look at how we talk about early careers routes, work experience, apprenticeships and graduate programmes, and tell us honestly what works, what doesn't, and what a young person starting out would find useful.
Reporting to our Head of Apprenticeships, you'll work across People and Culture, talent and early careers teams to help map, simplify and strengthen how Serco brings young people into the organisation. The work you produce will feed directly into a live workforce strategy, with a real chance to shape how we support the next generation of Serco talent.
As part of this you’ll:
- Review Serco's existing early careers offer through a fresh, external lens, identifying where language, processes or routes create unnecessary confusion or barriers.
- Map end-to-end journeys across work experience, placements, apprenticeships and graduate routes, helping show how they connect rather than sit in silos.
- Help develop simple, practical tools for managers including guides, checklists and timelines that are human and easy to use rather than policy-heavy.
- Support the creation of clear, plain-English content that explains each early careers route and what it is actually for.
- Assist in drafting quality and safeguarding principles that promote consistency and positive early experiences across the organisation.
- Work with People colleagues and managers to test ideas, gather feedback and bring together a coherent, joined-up picture of early careers at Serco.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- A genuine interest in people, careers, social mobility, learning or workforce development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn complex ideas into clear, usable outputs.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines across a short placement.
- Confidence to ask questions, challenge assumptions and push back where something doesn't make sense.
- A practical mindset and a willingness to take feedback and adapt.
- No prior experience is required. Curiosity, motivation and a thoughtful approach are what matter most.
