Discipline information

The Marine Systems Discipline is responsible for the design, engineering & package management of Marine & HVAC Systems on floating production/storage units. The team consists of approximately fifteen engineers (including contractors) and is subject to further growth in order to support growing project demand.

Role description

In this line management role as Discipline Manager Marine Systems, you are responsible for maintaining and developing the team skill sets within the discipline. You are responsible for allocating resources to ensure all Marine Systems engineering project tasks are completed within budget, schedule, quality and safety requirements. You take ownership of the overall quality and performance of work performed by the Discipline. In your role, you must manage uncertainty and provide guidance to the team such that designs are properly executed and risk is managed to prevent negative impact to the projects.

Furthermore, you shall:

• Ensure efficiency of the work by continuous improvement of tools and engineering processes.
• Ensure that interfaces with other disciplines and stakeholders are consistent and aligned.
• Manage talent development and resource development, and provide individual growth opportunities by training, coaching and mentoring.
• Promote the development of the Marine Systems knowledge and expertise within SBM and keep abreast of the latest developments in technology.

As a Discipline Manager Marine Systems in Schiedam office, you may hold additional roles to ensure efficient collaboration and improvement across SBM group.

1. Perform the role of Technical Expert Marine Systems for Schiedam office.
2. Perform the role of Group Marine Systems & HVAC Engineering Method Authority.
3. Perform the Discipline Focal Point for SBM’s F4W Improvement Program.

You will report to the Manager of the Hull Department.

Role requirements

Our preferred candidate for the role of Discipline Manager Marine Systems has at least 10 years’ experience in Marine System design in the (offshore) Oil & Gas industry. You have a relevant degree and bring strong leadership skills in managing a team that may be working both locally in the office and remotely from site. You are best described as communicative, stress resistant, organization sensitive and decisive. You are willing to travel, when necessary.

In addition to this, you have:

• Experience in working in a global matrix organization.
• Resourcefulness: you are securing and deploying resources effectively and effectively
• Excellent organizational awareness: you are able to comfortably maneuver through complex policies, processes and people-related organizational dynamics.
• A strategic mindset: you are looking ahead for future possibilities and translate them into breakthrough strategies.

By the end of 2024 the current SBM Schiedam office will move to Groot Handelsgebouw in the heart of Rotterdam city centre, one of the Netherlands’ largest multi-tenant business buildings. Extensive works will make this space into the perfect location to showcase SBM Offshore’s new Rotterdam presence and identity, with modern office space design and our SBM office branding.
