Within the legal department of Royal IHC’s head office in the Netherlands we have an opening for a Senior Legal Counsel with extensive knowledge of commercial law and an equal amount of hands-on experience.

As Senior Legal Counsel you will work closely together with the business and provide high quality legal advice and support throughout the Royal IHC Group in various fields such as shipbuilding, vessel conversions, stand-alone sales of equipment, services and business development. You will also contribute to the further development of the legal department and play an important role in implementing and maintaining the corporate legal framework.

You will be responsible for:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex contracts - such as shipbuilding agreements – and related documentation.
  • Monitoring and ensuring proper application of and compliance with legal policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining and improving standard template agreements, including identifying new types of transactions that require a standardized or alternative legal approach.
  • Providing tangible and hands-on legal advice on strategic commercial initiatives and in respect of commercial contracts (tenders, offers and negotiations).
  • Promoting and executing cross-functional and international collaboration.
  • Proactive support and assistance of the business with the opportunities ahead among others by improving the identification, assessment, and management of legal risks..
  • Providing legal support to (senior) management in case of disputes, claim settlements and arbitrations (including liaising with and manage external lawyers).

To be eligible for this role, you must have:

  • 7 to 10 years of experience in an in-house legal position or at a law firm (in an international setting).
  • An academic education in Dutch law.
  • Fluent in Dutch and English (both spoken and written).
  • In depth knowledge of and experience with contract law and preferably construction law.
  • A sound understanding of the commercial side of agreements and be able to develop solid relationships.
  • (Preferably) knowledge about licensing and selling intellectual property.
  • Strong analytical skills to quickly grasp the often versatile complexities of projects.
  • Strong communication skills across all levels of seniority within the business.
  • A positive attitude, can-do mentality and a flexible, results-orientated approach.
  • An eye for detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • A team player approach.

Royal IHC offers you:

  • A gross monthly salary between €7062,- and €8806,- (depending on your experience), +8% holiday allowance (based on a fulltime working week).
