Royal IHC
Royal IHC is aiming to appoint a new Manager to lead our yard in Kinderdijk.
The Capacity Center Kinderdijk is considered to be the core of the industrial basis for production at Royal IHC in the Netherlands with a focus on shipbuilding, pontoon construction and manufacturing of dedicated and bespoke offshore equipment. It also provides manpower and services for lifecycle engineering projects and other Royal IHC projects in the region. There are about 250 FTE working in the Capacity Center.
As Manager Capacity Center you will lead the Capacity Center Kinderdijk and all its relevant production competences.
Projects like building complex vessels is not just a sequence of sub-optimal activities, it is a balancing act in order to find the optimum process for the overall project and requires flexibility from all disciplines involved. You must be able to convince individuals, disciplines, and subcontractors to divert from their sub-optimal process to support the overall project.
An important part of the role is to find the balance between line management and project management priorities.
You will:
- Lead a performance driven and customer-oriented Production organization with a strong safety culture.
- Set the direction to instill an effective production approach from the first initiative through to delivery of products, including actions towards continuous improvement of the production e.g. on safety culture, craftsmanship development, future building opportunities and coverage of production facilities.
- You will also have a focus on external trends to be able to challenge the product management and technology developments to speed up time to market, efficient production, automation of processes and value creation for Royal IHC’s customers
- Support the business strategy of Royal IHC and ensure sufficient capacity to serve that strategy.
- Have a strong external commercial focus in order to market (excess) production capacity for the Capacity Center Kinderdijk.
- Be the linking pin for production in the contact with local shipyards, important market parties, (local) governmental bodies and trade associations.
- Maintain and implement a 1-3 year operational plan.
- You have a key role in building bridges between internal departments, motivating staff and endorsing working together.
- Have financial responsibility of the Capacity Center Kinderdijk’s performance.
- Manage the delivery of Royal IHC’s production strategy to deliver cost savings.
- Develop craftsmanship in the Capacity Center Kinderdijk, and ensure internal mobility across production departments.
- Develop, set, drive and monitor metrics in occupation rates, production coverage and strong focus on planning horizon and their interdependencies.

- Create feedback loop; clear in communicating ‘what do I expect from you’.

You have:
- Leadership from a perspective of safety and well-being first and foremost and you have proven track record of growth mindset and steering teams to improve safety and quality standards.
- A completed bachelor degree in shipbuilding, mechanical engineering, business administration (or comparable).
- Over 10 years of management experience preferably in the maritime industry (or equivalent industries in project business).
- Self-awareness: you instinctively know how to coach people through change, you are approachable and hands-on.
- Excellent communication, commercial, analytical and problem solving skills. You think in solutions, not in bottlenecks.
- The ability to adjust your communication to suit all appropriate levels in the organization.
- Financial awareness and insight.
