We are looking for a Maritime SatCom Solutions Engineering and Market Development Support to support ESA in advancing cutting-edge satcom systems and services for critical maritime applications. You will be based in Noordwijk, Netherlands.

Tasks and activities

The scope of activities will include:

  • Supporting the identification, definition, assessment, and development of new satcom system infrastructure and services for maritime critical communications and maritime domain awareness, including the below;
    • Performing system analyses in parallel or in support of industrial activities.
    • Contributing to the gathering and analysis of technology trends and gaps, user needs, standardisation and regulatory progress, business intelligence and market information.
    • Identifying and defining future systems and technology development activities, (in terms of either technology, product and system/service development, or in-orbit validation and demonstration).
    • Supporting the establishment and maintenance of close relations and continuous dialogue with industrial, academic, and institutional/regulatory players from the maritime and satcom sectors,
    • Providing support to standardisation and regulatory activities.
  • Supporting the management of activities devoted to the development of satcom system concepts, services, products and technologies for maritime critical communications and maritime domain awareness.
  • Contributing to the review of business cases and market assumptions for ESA and industry-initiated activities in the domain.
  • Assisting with ESA-initiated activities preparation and implementation, including supporting the 4S Workplan and Announcement of Opportunities preparation.
  • Supporting preparation of inputs to status reports.
  • Coordinating the reporting of progress, status, schedule and outcome of activities, including realistic forecasting of milestone completion dates.
  • Supporting the timely preparation of papers for Adjudication Committee meetings or Delegate bodies (IPC, JCB).
  • Establishing and managing ESA requirements, specifications and documentation for the evaluation, negotiation, monitoring and control of contracts and activities related to satcom system concepts, services and technologies for maritime communications and domain awareness.

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Telecommunications, Aerospace, or a related discipline.
  • At least 4 years of experience in the field of Maritime SatCom systems architecture or Maritime Connectivity ideally with experience in business development or market development activities.
  • Experience in onboard hardware integration, including stabilized antennas, modems, routers, and maritime IoT solutions.
  • Familiarity with link budgets, IP networking, cyber security requirements at sea, and bandwidth management.
  • Experience in generating Market Intelligence reports and State-of-the-art and technology roadmaps.
  • Sound understanding of VDES and RF Detection.
  • Eligibility for ESA / EU security clearance.
  • Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
  • Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
