We are looking for a DSP/FPGA Engineer to work at our client’s premises in Noordwijk, Netherlands.
About the client and location
The European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) is the European Space Agency’s (ESA) base in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. As ESA’s largest test centre, it is responsible for the majority of space technology and spacecraft development through varying phases of production.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Microelectronic design for Integrated Circuits (digital and mixed‑signal), including wired and wireless systems, FPGA development, and IP core design.
- End‑to‑end microelectronic development projects, from initial concept and design through to qualification and final application.
- Performing functional and performance verification, validation, qualification, and acceptance activities for microelectronic designs.
- Microelectronic technology, design methodologies and toolchains across the full development flow: HW/SW co‑design, architecture modelling and analysis, circuit design (schematics and HDLs), high‑level synthesis, place‑and‑route and layout, through to verification, validation testing, and application deployment.
- Management, monitoring, and technical support of industrial microelectronic activities.
- Microelectronic standards for commercial and space applications.
- DSP algorithm implementation on FPGAs/accelerators/DSPs/µPs/ASICs (e.g., filtering, FFT, sampling).
- FPGA/RF‑SoC/ASIC design & V&V: simulation, debugging, synthesis, and layout/implementation.
- Designing methodologies and tools for reusable IP cores.
- Integrated circuit functional, electrical, and environmental testing.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Strong experience in microelectronic design for integrated circuits (digital and mixed‑signal, wired and wireless), FPGA development, and IP cores.
- Background in microelectronic development projects from concept to qualification and application.
- End‑to‑end microelectronic design and development knowledge, from HW/SW co‑design and architecture modelling through implementation, verification, validation, qualification, and application deployment.
- Management, monitoring, and technical support of industrial microelectronic activities.
- Microelectronic standards for commercial and space applications.
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- Base band algorithm implementation for satellite and/or 3GPP communications, GNSS, SAR, and image/video signal processing.
- System‑level modelling using MATLAB, SystemC, and/or SystemVerilog.
- Communication base band, GNSS, and AI and/or image/video processing architectures.
- Knowledge of RISC‑V, SPARC, and ARM processor instruction set architectures (ISAs) and their extensions.
- Expertise in SpaceWire, SpaceFibre, Ethernet, PCIe, JESD204, CAN, and MIL‑STD‑1553 interfaces.
- Knowledge of Hardware–software co‑design, including high‑level synthesis and auto‑coding, HDL coding rules and linting, and software development in C, C++, and Python.
