We are looking for a Satellite System Engineer to support our client, The European Space Agency (ESA), in Noordwijk, The Netherlands.
In this role you will support ESA with earth observation missions, including both the Earth Explorers Programme and the Copernicus missions. This position is based on-site at ESA’s ESTEC based in Noordwijk.
Tasks and Activities
The scope of work will include:
- Providing satellite level system engineering support covering satellite, instrument and platform level performance, functional and environmental aspects.
- Critically reviewing and coordinating system level, satellite level, instrument level and platform level (functional and environmental) AIV/AIT plans and procedures and supporting subsequent discussions with the industrial consortium on the findings by providing specialist knowledge on satellite, platform and instruments. This task shall be performed in coordination with specialist engineering support as well as dedicated AIT/AIV support from TEC.
- Supporting the definition, coordination and execution of the satellite level functional and environmental test campaigns, including presence at the prime Contractor premises or environmental test facilities as needed.
- Coordinating the contributions and participation of specialist engineering and AIT/AIV support from TEC and performing the engineering assessment of the resulting output.
- Supporting any failure investigations, including providing specialist support and engineering assessment to the investigations and participation to Non-Conformance Review Boards.
- Coordinating the review of Satellite level, platform level and instrument level Verification Control Documents and coordinate specific Verification Control Boards.
- Coordinating the review of Flight Operations Manuals and Flight Operations Procedures in close cooperation with instrument and platform engineers, specialist TEC support, ESOC and industry operations teams.
- Supporting the validation of the Flight Operations Procedures, providing assistance and coordination to the preparations and execution of the System Validation Tests.
- Participating to the simulations’ campaigns in preparation of LEOP and Commissioning activities and coordinating the participation of specialist engineering support from TEC.
- Supporting the satellite launch campaign.
- Supporting the preparation and execution of the LEOP and Commissioning phases as well as preparation for the routine operations phase.
Skills and Experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- A Master’s or PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering or Equivalent in a STEM Discipline.
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule.
- At least 4 years of Experience in Space Systems Engineering.
- At least 4 years of Experience in AIT/AIV processes.
- Proficient in the English language (spoken and written).
