As a senior AWS cloud engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining our Finance & Risk Integrated Solution application (FRIS). Working closely with the DevOps team, you will leverage your expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure to optimize the performance and efficiency of the SAS-based application.

Your impact as AWS cloud engineer at NN

FRIS is a critical application that enables us to make data available from the data warehouse, perform calculations, and create models and reports. As an AWS cloud engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that the application runs smoothly, with high-quality reports and data available to colleagues in Credit Risk, Market Risk, Finance, and external supervisors such as DNB. These reports are crucial in maintaining our banking license.

As an AWS cloud engineer at NN, you will join Fris orange, the sub-team responsible for managing the AWS platform for FRIS. Your primary role will be to enable the OPS team (Fris Blue) to run the reports necessary for maintaining our banking license by ensuring that the application runs optimally and efficiently.

This position is challenging due to the large size of the FRIS application with the whole DTAP-street, the high volumes of data to be processed, and the strict performance requirements. The ultimate goal of the team is to automate the application to the point where it runs 100% automatically, without the need for a support team. Your primary responsibility will be to automate as much as possible, optimizing the application's performance and efficiency.

Your responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure and services on the AWS platform for the Fris application.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and deploying scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems on AWS
  • Managing and monitoring AWS services and resources to ensure optimal performance and availability
  • Automating infrastructure deployment and management using tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation
  • Developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for the Fris application on AWS
  • Ensuring security and compliance of AWS environments by fixing and preventing vulnerabilities
  • Troubleshooting issues and providing solutions to improve system performance, availability and stability
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Automating AMI patching to ensure the latest security patches are applied
  • Ensuring connection with CMDB to keep track of all changes in the environment
  • Automating backups across different accounts to mitigate the risk of ransomware attacks, especially for large volumes of data
  • Implementing cost-saving measures to manage AWS costs effectively. One such measure would be to migrate SAS data sets to PostgreSQL DB. This will optimize data management and reduce the overall cost of running the application on AWS
  • Performing LCM activities for components used in the application
  • Fixing and preventing TSCM issues to ensure the security of the application and its data

Who you are

You are a highly skilled and experienced AWS engineer with the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in AWS cloud engineering and architecture
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, EBS, EFS, KMS, IAM, DMS, CloudFormation, SNS, SecretsManager, Security groups, Autoscaling groups, Route53, SSM, AWS Backup, and CloudWatch
  • Proficiency with infrastructure as code tools such as CloudFormation and Terraform
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD
  • Proficiency with Linux (Redhat 8), Windows (Server2019 EV), Splunk, Ansible, Bash, and Python
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • You have a Great passion for Automation
  • SAS knowledge is a plus

We have set up our offices in such a way that there is a suitable place for every type of work. The official location for this job is The Hague.
