This is the role

At the moment we have two intern assignments available within the Digital department.

Assignment 1:
We have been researching on innovative digital technologies that can support the plastic waste and sorting business (upstream for us). We would like for the intern to continue the research around technical innovations (such as blockchain, AI/Machine learning) and also researching in other domains that can bring value to the firm. Our focus has shifted towards the Circularity and Sustainability business and the team wishes to further that journey. The research is not only limited to the upstream business but also to other areas where Digital Technologies can support the organization.

Assignment 2:
We are developing a platform that can support track and tracing of products across various stakeholders from raw materials to finished products. The Digital Product Passport (DPP), being the first product on this platform is a European Commission legislative (effect 2025/2026) that will allow for sharing of product information in an immutable way across the value chain, allowing stakeholders and regulators to add/verify data being shared. We will be using Blockchain technology to support the immutability of data concept. The role requires to liaise with relevant internal/external stakeholders with the team to build the project.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

• Develop assigned project as per scope, objectives and deliverables
• Participate in orientation sessions & Trainings
• Participate in day-to-day support activities of assigned organization and understand the priorities for the team
• Participate in discussions regarding the approach, planning, and development of components for the assignment
• Meet with experienced professionals from all around the globe working in IT, Digital, Cyber security, manufacturing and other teams
• Document procedures and technical designs for new initiatives; present to peers and senior management
• Conduct all activities in compliance with policies, guidelines, procedures, work processes, and internal controls
• Work with the manager & mentor to develop other key projects or initiatives
• Participate in discussions regarding leveraging developing/novel technologies for existing work-flows (sharing knowledge and learning together)
• Be involved in meetings with external tech vendors, research institutes and companies
• Drive standardization and proactively recommend improvements

Objectives and Deliverables:

• Continue the initial research that has been done in the space.
• Dive deeper into certain use-cases and evaluate the technology holistically
• Assess use cases of similar technologies using an outside-in view, understanding what has been done in our industry or other industries
• Work with the DPP Team to contribute towards the Track and Trace platform project
• Propose next steps – how do we proceed
• Interns will be supported by key IDC (IT, Digital Transformation and Cyber Security) staff and other departments as needed, and all work will be performed under the supervision of a senior staff member

At the end of the internship, the student will present the results of the internship projects to the IDC Senior Management team

Internship to be based out of the Rotterdam Office
Depending on the student’s performance there would be an option to join as a full-time employee at the end of the internship

• Currently enrolled in the final year of a BSc. or MSc. study in an IT/Digital related field\
  • Students with business, management or commercial oriented background and digital affinity are also welcome to apply
• Fluent in English
• Must be available to work 32 - 40 hours per week, for at least a duration of 3 months
• EU citizen
