A Day in the Life

As Trade Compliance Specialist you will be a key member of the Trade Compliance team, where you will play a critical role in the development and maintenance of procedures and processes to ensure compliance of our operations within EAI for import and export procedures. In your role you will work closely together with (Senior) Trade Compliance specialist and other Trade Compliance team members where everyone will have focus areas.

This position will interface with the European Supply Chain organization, Corporate Compliance, Product specialists, Procurement, Legal in addition to many external trade partners such as customs authorities and custom brokers on all matters pertaining to trade compliance. The dynamic nature of LyondellBasell requires individuals who can think quickly, act independently, and proactively solve problems before they arise. Strong customer service skills and effective communication are required.

Responsibilities & accountabilities:

  • Act as subject matter expert for general operational trade compliance matters for our Supply Chain partners EU region (such as incoterms, HS classification, export control, (proof of) origin)
  • Support and control all operational trade/customs processes in relation to our Customs brokers
  • Manage and resolve operational trade compliance issues within the EU/UK region; implements corrective actions as required
  • Support in creating trade and customs awareness within the Supply Chain organization by conducting training on trade compliance procedures and regulatory rules for internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor legislation and support in managing actions for appropriate changes within the LYB organization
  • Support in the monitoring and contribution to LYB trade compliance performance and customs broker KPI’s
  • Customs licenses management including adjusting/applying for new customs licenses
  • Execute our trade compliance control framework (regular and periodic compliance reviews and assessments)
  • Support in the integration of technology tools in day-to-day operational procedures and analyses

You Bring This Value

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience (Degree in Customs and Trade a plus)
  • Minimum of 4-6 years work experience in the customs/trade compliance area (customs authorities, customs brokers or corporate multi-national environment). People within a similar role in an International environment with at least 3 years experience are welcome to apply
  • Proven knowledge of customs and trade regulations in Europe (other regions a plus)
  • Experience in product classifications (experience in the Chemical sector is a plus)
  • Knowledge of and experience with excise legislation and excise warehousing is considered a plus
  • Demonstrated experience handling in AEO and customs special procedures (IPR, OPR, End Use, etc.) are a plus
  • Experience managing SAP and global trade services
  • Experienced in automating processes, knowledge of SAP
  • Good understanding of internal compliance policy, business processes and operational procedures.
  • Proven experience working in a global, matrixed organization
  • Fluent in English in addition, French is considered a strong plus
