Job Overview:

The Planning Manager is responsible for leading and managing all planning, scheduling, progress monitoring, and reporting activities for FPSO EPCI projects from tender stage through engineering, procurement, construction, integration, commissioning, sail away, and offshore hook-up activities.
The role ensures successful project execution through development and maintenance of integrated project schedules, proactive identification of risks and delays, optimization of resources, and delivery of accurate forecasting and management reporting

The Manager Planning/Scheduling provides leadership to professional staff within the Planning/Scheduling discipline. They are accountable for the performance and results of multiple related teams; their decisions are guided by resource availability and functional objectives of the Planning/Scheduling discipline.

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Project Management/Engineering/Construction/Business Management or equivalent combinations of technical training or experience required
  • 15+ years of EPCIC experience with Offshore Oil and Gas projects / FPSO Projects
  • Planning/Scheduling experience for Large FPSO or Topside Fabrication projects preferred
  • Have solid commands of Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office software
  • Must be able to use advanced features in Excel (curves, histograms, dynamic tables, formulas, etc.)
  • Able to produce and maintain logically linked activity schedules, according to precedence flow in EPCIC planning, using best practices
  • Able to produce and assess progress curves, histograms, variance reports, and critical paths
  • Able to analyze project status and performance, deviations, performance factors, forecasts, and workarounds
  • Must be able to produce multidisciplinary logically linked activity schedules, according to precedence flow in planning, using best industry practices
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members and management

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Provide planning supervision, direction, and leadership
  • Responsible for the planning, discipline, and delivery of the project
  • Client interface management and provide leadership to all report and control requirements
  • Directly work with the Project Manager/Director & Project Controls Manager, aid in providing the project status, forecast of the future, and definition of alternatives
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the contract requirements of the project they are assigned to
  • Keep the Area Planning Manager informed of the personnel and training requirements of the Project Planning personnel assigned to them
  • Take total ownership of the schedule integrity, proactively monitor and report productivity, and help the Project Team drive the project to completion
  • Ensure that the schedule impact of individual changes and the cumulative impact of all changes are evaluated
  • Prepare a practical and achievable project schedule at the outset
  • Develop, implement, and maintain integrated project schedules(Level 3) for FPSO EPCI projects covering Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, Module integration, Marine activities, Offshore installation, Hook-up & commissioning, Start-up support
  • Define critical paths, milestones, float analysis, and schedule interfaces
  • Ensure schedule alignment with contractual requirements and project execution strategy
  • Ensure that the project starts with and maintains an overall integrated Level 3 schedule with appropriate links
  • Liaise with the construction manager to ensure that the Fabrication, Offshore, Hookup, and Pre-commissioning schedules are done in enough detail (Level 3) and that Required On-Site (ROS dates for engineering deliverables, materials, and subcontract services are established
  • Liaise with the Engineering Manager to ensure that the engineering deliverables register (Level 4) is maintained with the plan, forecast, and actual dates for various milestones (e.g., ROS Date Inter Discipline Check, Approval by Client, Issued as AFC, etc.)
  • Liaise with the procurement manager to ensure that the procurement and subcontract plan (Level 4) is maintained with the plan, forecast, and actual dates for the various milestones (ROS dates, Issue Request for Quotation, Complete Bid Evaluations, Issue Purchase Order, receipt of critical documentation, Delivery, etc.)
  • Liaise with critical vendors and subcontractors through the procurement manager and monitor their schedules; also incorporate their schedules into the overall schedule
  • Ensure that the Level 4 Engineering and Procurement plans are appropriately grouped into the overall Level 3 schedule
  • Participate in project risk workshops and conduct schedule risk assessments
  • Ensure that resource planning is done adequately and that the project is staffed with appropriate and adequate personnel
  • Proactively manage the schedule; review and use late reports and look ahead reports to achieve the same; progress the schedule on an ongoing basis and analyze the impact
  • Proactively manage all functional deliverables using the look-ahead process
  • Continuously monitor performance and take corrective action as necessary
  • Communicate project schedule requirements and changes
  • Achieve predictable performance
  • Set up a progress measurement mechanism that is reflective of physical progress made
  • Ensure that progress is measured every week for all aspects of the project
  • Ensure that the progress curves and reports are made and distributed internally and externally on a timely basis
  • Ensure that progress is agreed upon every month with the client, issue and follow up invoices on a timely basis
  • Prepare project weekly and monthly reports for internal and external distribution as per internal and Contract requirements.
  • Initiate and maintain project metrics (Project Success Index) on an ongoing basis. Review and recommend appropriate action to the Project Manager
  • Aid the Project Controls Manager by being forecast conscious, and asking the question How does this event affect the forecast?
  • Aid the Project Controls Manager in the use of the earned value concept in forecasting; use commitments made and the earned value to accurately forecast commitments to go
  • Aid the Project Controls Manager when Planning input is required
  • Own and lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with all McDermott policies and procedures
  • Ensure employees understand their responsibility and authority to effectively implement the requirements of all McDermott policies and procedures
  • Ensure the timely completion of all mandatory training by themselves and their teams
