What you will do
The teaching and learning coordinator is responsible for the development and coordination of the academic and professional skills training and assessment throughout the first year of the bachelor’s program Security Studies (BaSS) and the first year of the Dutch-taught bachelor’s program Cybersecurity and Cybercrime (BaCC). This entails ensuring a good didactic and pedagogical operation of the skills labs that underpin the bachelor programmes, as well as responsibility for coordinating the education that takes place in tutor teams, for guiding tutors in their educational tasks, and for coordinating skills education with lecturers in the programmes.
The teaching and learning coordinator has the following key tasks:

  • Monitoring and evaluating the academic and professional skills development of students (learning outcomes, content, assignments and assessment), in close cooperation with programme management, academic staff involved and tutors;
  • Ensuring delivery of high-quality education within the programmes with a specific focus on the Bachelor programmes’ workgroups also known as ‘skills labs’ (including advising and giving instruction on assessments, methods of teaching, content, work arrangements etc.);
  • Advise on curriculum development and education policies;
  • Fostering an innovative teaching and learning environment;
  • Cooperation with the tutor manager, the programme directors, director of education, study coordinators, study advisors to facilitate student learning;
  • Quality control and managing the teaching schedules for the tutors in the skills labs;
  • Assist in coordinating the training and development of tutors (formal initial training weeks + course trainings), as well as on the job pedagogical coaching of tutors;
  • Contributing to the process of recruitment of new tutors.

The Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) is a scientific institute specialising in security issues. ISGA is part of the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs of Leiden University.

ISGA analyses and studies security issues with local, national, transnational and global impact. These include crises, intelligence, terrorism, war, violence and cybercrime. The institute is characterised by a multidisciplinary research approach.
ISGA is based in the residential city of The Hague, the international city of peace, justice and security. Inspiring interactions are maintained with other knowledge institutions, regional, national and international governments, the private sector and NGOs.

What you bring
In this team, we are looking for someone who can work independently. Every job is different, so in the beginning we will devote attention to your onboarding. If some of the work activities are new to you, we will look together at what you need, and draw up a development plan. This position is a good fit for you if you recognise yourself in the following:

  • Experience in teaching is required. Experience with skills training is an advantage.
  • A background in social or political sciences or another relevant academic discipline;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a good understanding of social science;
  • Experience with the development of skills training in higher education;
  • Strong organisational skills including time and resource management
  • Ability to prioritize tasks;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and work closely and intensively with senior lecturers, programme director, institute management and other relevant stakeholders;
  • You have (near) native proficiency in Dutch and English
  • You live and are officially registered as resident in The Netherlands or are willing to relocate upon starting the position.

Desirable

  • A proven ability to supervise, train and motivate an international team of tutors or young professionals;
  • Affinity with the field of (contemporary) Security challenges and/or Global Affairs;
  • A master degree in a (for the programme) relevant field;
  • Experience with (interdisciplinary) curriculum development;
  • A proactive, flexible and problem-solving attitude.

  • An employment contract for the duration of one year with a view to permanent employment (based on funding and performance).
  • This contract falls under the CLA of Dutch Universities;
  • A salary of a minimum of € 4.728,- and a maximum of € 6.433,- gross per month, based on a full-time appointment (38 hours) (scale 11)
  • A holiday allowance (8%), an end-of-year bonus (8,3%), and an attractive pension scheme at ABP;
  • Full reimbursement of public transport commuting costs for home-to-work travel;
  • Flexible working hours: as a standard, you are entitled to a minimum of 29 leave days on the basis of a full-time working week of 38 hours; you can also save for extra leave, for example by working 40 hours a week, and in this way accrue an extra 96 leave hours, or exchange 96 leave hours for a 36-hour week.
  • Lots of options when it comes to secondary employment conditions; we can, for example, discuss options for a sabbatical or paid parental leave. Within our terms of employment individual choices model, you can exchange leave days and/or salary for benefits such as an advantageous sports subscription or bicycle scheme, and we also offer child-care options;
  • If your work allows it, hybrid working is possible within the Netherlands;
  • A home-working allowance (day and internet allowance) and attention for good workplaces. The University will also provide you with a laptop.
