Department:

The Engineering-Validation-Maintenance (EVM) department (> 35 persons) is a motivated and dynamic team responsible for the technical support of all utilities, production and laboratory areas and all involved equipment at the Janssen Vaccines & Prevention site in Leiden.

We work in a challenging environment where we make great progress in developing our vaccines. Engineering has a large project portfolio to sustain/improve the existing environment. The Compliance group looks after the correct qualification and validation status of GMP critical equipment and processes. Furthermore, document control, quality and safety programs are part of this team. The key-focus point of the maintenance groups (U&B, Automation and Equipment group) is asset maintenance management of all assets within JVP.

Job Description:

As (Sr.) Safety Engineer, you provide leadership and support to all departmental safety related topics and play a crucial role in providing technical expertise and guidance to promote workplace safety within the complexity and dynamics of a research and development organization. You will ensure all activities under EVM responsibility are consistent with current industry and regulatory safety requirements, and company safety policies.

You will develop/implement safety related approaches and procedures, coordinating with EVM teams, the EHS department and other groups. Provide support and/or lead projects in the field of Safety related topics. Provide leadership and coaching to ensure adherence to save work habits via the J&J safety work permit system and safety standards.

You Assess the impact of safety related observations. You are involved in continuous (cross departmental) safety improvement projects throughout the year; you actively seek for gaps in the current situation, gain support to improve and lead these projects yourself. You set up safety Risk Assessments and Job Safety Analysis.

At this level the role has increased responsibility including, but not limited to, assisting in mentoring less experienced staff. Provide coaching and training and guidance on aspects of safety. Acts as a major contact for representing EVM and/or safety issues during regulatory and third party in.

You will further strengthen the EVM organization. We are in the process of shaping our departmental safety roles to fulfill the current industry, regulatory and company safety standards. You will play a crucial role in this exiting journey.

As (Sr) Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Provide departmental ownership company safety standards, e.g. Work Permit system, Contractor Management
  • Keep oversight over the departmental safety tasks and related KPI’s
  • Act as safety representative for the EVM department, within EVM and for other departments
  • Lead investigations on safety related topics
  • Advise and guide EVM team members on safety
  • Lead improvement projects for safety related topics
  • Seek and report flaws in the current safety situation to continuously improve
  • Leading / Setting up safety Risk Assessments and Job Safety Analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Education: University/Bachelor Degree or Equivalent and/or HVK Veiligheidskunde with technical background.

Specific Knowledge and experience:

  • Work experience as (senior) Safety Engineer in engineering/technical environment.
  • Knowledge of engineering safety legislation is required (Dutch Working Conditions Act).
  • Good command of Dutch and English in word and writing
