Important:
Recruitment for this post in the General Service category is done on a local basis. As a result, staff are generally recruited from the area in which the particular office is located but could be of any nationality. Candidates applying to a post in the General Services category shall meet the relevant employment and immigration requirements in the country of the duty station, including fulfilling residence and work permit conditions.
Applicants will be responsible for any expenses incurred in relation to: visa, travel to and from, and relocation to and from the duty station, in the event of an employment offer.
A staff member in the General Service category who has been locally recruited shall not be eligible for the entitlements and/or benefits exclusively applicable to internationally recruited staff.
Organisational Context
The Integrated Services Division (ISD) within the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) centralizes the specialized support functions that provide cross-cutting support to the Office. The Division is headed by a Director who is responsible for managing the reliable and cost-effective delivery of integrated services and ensuring that the OTP is adequately supported through all relevant service functions, technologies and equipment, and that appropriate services are available to allow the implementation of the Office’s mandate. The services include planning and operations, witness protection and management, information knowledge and evidence management, forensic science, language and administrative support. The Division works to develop new approaches and strategies that promote the use of modern tools and advanced technology as mechanisms to strengthen the effectiveness of the Office.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent of the post will work in the Language Services Unit of the Office of the Prosecutor reporting to the Transcription Coordinator. The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Quality review transcripts produced by others against audio or video recordings to ensure quality fit for OTP and courtroom purposes;
- Produce self-reviewed transcripts swiftly and accurately from audio or video recordings in keeping with guidelines and glossaries;
- Provide input to the Transcription Coordinator to improve job efficiency and quality of results and contribute towards the development and updating of guidelines and workflows relevant to transcription processes;
- Assist in building Situation-specific glossaries;
- Perform other tasks as required, including by supporting administrative processes, finalising and registering transcripts and providing other basic data-entry duties such as copy-typing of handwritten evidence.
Essential Qualifications
Education:
Diploma of secondary education.
Experience:
A minimum of four years of work experience in either (a) a language-related role, or (b) a communications, media, secretarial or administrative role with a focus on typing, data entry, drafting or IT, is required. An advanced or a first-level university degree may be considered as a substitute for two years' working experience only to determine eligibility;
Previous work experience in a legal environment is desirable;
Linguistic training will be considered a strong asset.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Excellent listening and comprehension skills as well as demonstrable skill in applying attention to detail with data and information accuracy;
- Good skills in working with electronic data management systems with demonstrable proficiency in touch-typing on relevant keyboards;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with prior experience working with highly confidential information being a strong asset;
- Ability to work to strict deadlines under stress conditions effectively with evolving tasks and priorities;
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with demonstrable organisation skills;
- Sound knowledge of relevant computer software, specifically Microsoft 365, as well as transcription-assisted software and automated transcription tools;
- Ability to work effectively and constructively in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity;
- Professional and personal integrity.
Knowledge of languages:
Mother-tongue proficiency in Arabic and high-level proficiency in English are required. Working knowledge of the other working language of the Court, French, is desirable. Knowledge of another official language (Chinese, Russian, Spanish) or a Situation language would be considered an asset.
