ICCT is seeking an intern to support its activities. The intern will assist ICCT staff with background research on a range of topics related to current and emerging terrorist and extremist threats (such as ongoing jihadi activity in Europe, crime-terror nexus as operated by Russia and Iran, anti-Semitic extremism, nihilistic violent extremism), and provide administrative and logistical assistance in various projects. Other duties may include communication activities and assistance in the organisation of events. The variety of these responsibilities will require the intern to communicate effectively and to be highly organised and independent. The successful applicant should expect to gain direct exposure to the counter-terrorism work of a dynamic think tank at the intersection of security, politics and human rights. Tasks and responsibilities:- Research assistance: conducting research, such as doing literature reviews, collating datasets, coding source material and collecting background information related to activities and projects related to e.g. jihadism in Europe, crime-terror nexus and anti-Semitic extremism;- Project assistance: providing administrative and logistical support to ICCT’s core team;- Administration: providing secretarial and logistical support to ICCT’s core team, including the management and the Centre's associate fellows;- External communication: contributing to ingoing and outgoing correspondence, liaising with and welcoming external partners such as national and international academics, policymakers, (foreign) dignitaries and practitioners;- Event organisation: assisting in the organisation of public events and closed expert meetings;- Writing: interns also have the option to publish their research in one of the ICCT's publications (encouraged but not required);- Other duties as required. Key requirements:- Enrolled as a student in a university programme throughout the entire duration of the internship. Degrees related to politics, history, international relations, sociology, criminology, or security are preferred.- Eligible to work in the Netherlands - EER/Switzerland nationality OR holder of a Dutch study visa (see studyinholland.com).- Physical presence in the office is expected during the internship. Key competencies:- Broad interest in the field of terrorism and extremism;- Excellent research and analytical skills, preferably demonstrated through prior research experience;- Excellent communication and writing skills;- Proven organisational skills, ability to manage and prioritise various tasks;- Excellent (native or near-native) command of English;- Knowledge of other (European) languages is an advantage;- Excellent computer skills, including good command of Microsoft Office Suite;- Ability to work autonomously on given tasks and projects;- Ability to communicate with the rest of the team, including when working remotely;- Previous administrative experience is a plus.
