During the Fixed term period no relocation will be offered.

Salary negotiable depending on experience:
NL (HG16): EUR 72.851-91.063 annually including 8% holiday allowance
UK (HG16): GBP 49.314-61.642 annually
US (HG16): USD 96.722-119.879 annually

This is a fixed term position for at least 6 months. If the position becomes permanent the candidate needs to relocate to The Netherlands. A relocation package and work permit sponsoring will in that case be offered. This position will not be offered as permanent position from another location.

We are looking for a curriculum development manager with specific focus on individuals and societies, with a preference for linguistics or anthropology. The ability offer one other subject and/or core component is an advantage. Applications from candidates with experience in the DP/CP or other educational contexts are very welcome.

Curriculum Development Manager in the Education Office of the IB. Curriculum development managers strive to positively impact learning and teaching in all IB schools and for all educators and all students.

Aligned to IB’s educational philosophy, curriculum development managers plan, manage and lead the curriculum development of subjects and core components. Each curriculum development manager is responsible for ensuring the vitality, rigour and relevance of designated portfolios. Their work aims to further develop and strengthen the IB continuum of international education so that it is widely recognised as a leader in this field. Specifically, the curriculum review and development work seek to: ensure that the DP and CP are future-focused and adaptable; continuously strengthen learning and teaching for 16- to 19-year-old students; and support the effective implementation of the DP and CP.

Job background and purpose

The post holder will be responsible for the ongoing development of IB offerings by leading and managing the curriculum development for designated subjects.. The role of the curriculum development department is to develop curriculum content and assessment (formative, competencies) model tool based on the blueprint provided by student design department. This role maintains a balanced focus on knowledge domains, cognitive development, and competencies essential for human flourishing, ensuring coherence and progression across the IB continuum. The post holder will provide expertise to support the development of policy for technology integration and will lead and manage the implementation of this policy through quality cross-model support for curriculum development, aiming to advance the integration of technology into learning, teaching and assessment.

Curriculum Development Managers plan, manage, and lead the curriculum development of designated subject areas and components through the curriculum review process, aligning with the IB’s educational philosophy and current educational research. Each Curriculum Development Manager ensures the vitality, rigour, and relevance of educational offer components, aiming to enhance the IB continuum of international education and establish its leadership in the field. Additionally, Curriculum Development Managers may undertake or contribute to projects or activities that extend the scope of their role.

  • Hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, educational leadership, or curriculum development.

  • Possess significant post-qualification experience in teaching relevant curriculum areas.

  • Understand current developments and trends in teaching, learning and assessment.

  • Demonstrate strong organizational and analytical skills, with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Exhibit excellent writing skills in English, the organization's working language, with preferably a second language such as Spanish or French

  • Lead and work effectively within a team, fostering a collaborative environment.

  • Be proficient in using standard office software.

  • Be willing to adopt innovative methods of working with and using digital media.

  • Manage multiple projects efficiently, adhering to agreed timelines.

  • Present effectively to various audiences for different purposes.

Desirable

  • Have experience teaching IB programmes.

  • Possess experience in curriculum development and/or educational research.

  • Have experience writing for a range of audiences.

  • Coordinate with IB teams and stakeholders, IB global and regional teams, and external stakeholders (including IB World Schools) to ensure cohesive curriculum development and implementation.

  • Align curriculum and assessment, work closely with the assessment department to align curriculum and assessment strategies, developing appropriate assessment models.

  • Integrate efforts across departments, partner with departments such as publishing, MEP, communications and marketing, finance, IT, and project management to integrate curriculum development efforts.

  • Lead curriculum review and development, lead the curriculum review process, ensuring timely completion of projects and the development of innovative resources supported by technology.

  • Ensure quality and budget adherence, achieve quality outcomes within budgetary constraints, maintaining consistent curriculum standards and delivering high-quality products.

  • Adapt to global organizational complexities, navigate and resolve conflicts, adapt to diverse cultural assumptions, and plan for business continuity to meet agreed objectives.

  • Stay abreast with latest educational trends, stay updated on educational research and major developments, using research findings to inform curriculum development.

  • Assist in providing quality professional development for teachers and aid in gaining recognition and accreditation for IB educational offers.

  • Collaboration within (vertical and horizontal) the department and across other departments and offices.

  • Manage documentation and communication, author and manage curriculum-related documents, and contribute to a communications plan to ensure accurate information sharing with stakeholders.

  • Providing relevant information about educational offer subjects/ and or components in a timely manner.

  • Ensure relevant communications materials are produced and/or updated to a high standard and on schedule.

  • Ensure internal stakeholders are fully informed about changes that impact their work, and external stakeholders are informed about changes in a timely manner.

  • Respond to escalated queries from IB Answers in a timely manner.
