Student Learning Design
The Student Learning Design department is responsible for the design of the IB’s curriculum and assessment frameworks, integrating well-being, engagement, and intercultural approaches to develop international-mindedness and foster human and planetary flourishing. This role ensures coherence and progression across the IB continuum (Pre-K-12) and holistic development in different learning spaces with a balanced focus on knowledge, skills, attitudes and values/value systems, to develop competencies essential for human and planetary flourishing. A coherent curriculum model will ensure alignment of curriculum, assessment and pedagogy.
Core & Coherence team
The Core and Coherence team in the Student Learning Design department leads the design of the key frameworks and elements underpinning all IB programmes, to strengthen the coherence and uniqueness of an IB education and support IB’s thought leadership in the education landscape.
This team ensures that the IB’s learning architecture is developmentally, philosophically, and pedagogically aligned across the continuum from early years to pre-university or career-related pathways—so that students experience the IB as a seamless, integrated journey.
Senior Manager role
The Senior Manager is responsible for ensuring that learning is developmentally coherent, conceptually rich and carefully scaffolded for progression while reflecting IB’s commitment to human and planetary flourishing, intercultural understanding and learner agency.
The Senior Manager collaborates with colleagues across teams and departments, particularly with Research, Curriculum Development, and Assessment, to ensure effective implementation of IB design principles, policies and standards.
Quality assurance, budget management, and stakeholder engagement are key aspects of the role.
Core and Coherence Senior Manager
The Core and Coherence Senior Manager will contribute to the design of the key elements and frameworks of an IB education, and to ensuring coherence across the curriculum.
A key focus of this role will be on the design of the framework(s) underpinning IB programme cores—articulating what the purpose of the core is across programmes, which elements of an IB education it supports, and what types of activities it might include to achieve its aims.
The Core and Coherence Senior Manager engages in and oversees collaboration across teams and departments, and ensures excellence and coherence in the design and evolution of curriculum frameworks. They will collaborate in particular with the Learning and Knowledge Domains team in the design of frameworks that support cross-disciplinary learning, with the Competencies and Personal Development team in the development of competency frameworks, learning progressions and evidencing models related to the core, and with Curriculum Development to support and guide the development and review of specific core elements/components across programmes.
The Core and Coherence Senior Manager will contribute to the design of the key elements and frameworks of an IB education, and to ensuring coherence across the curriculum.
A higher degree in a relevant discipline, educational leadership, or curriculum development.
Proven record of leadership and management experience, with evidence of organizational and administrative abilities and team leadership, preferably in an international context.
Experience in teaching at early, primary. secondary or tertiary level, or appropriate experience in other relevant educational fields. Experience teaching IB offerings is desirable.
Experience in curriculum development, assessment, and/or educational research.
Experience working with digital media.
Experience writing for a range of audiences.
Understanding of current developments and trends in teaching and learning.
Good organizational and analytical skills, with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication and writing skills in English, the working language of the organization, French or Spanish is an advantage.
Ability to lead and work within a team and foster a collaborative environment.
Competency in using standard Office software.
Ability to manage multiple projects to agreed timelines.
Ability to present effectively for a variety of audiences and purposes.

- Curriculum Design: Responsible for the curriculum design of specified student learnings, ensuring alignment with well-being, engagement, and intercultural approaches. Model standards and practices for curriculum design and development.
- Integration and Collaboration: Coordinate Office initiatives under the direction and agreement with the Department leader or the Chief Officer of the Education Office. Collaborate with Curriculum Development Managers to support and guide the integration of frameworks and design principles into the development of specific subject or core component guidance. Oversee collaboration across departments and with other IB divisions (Schools & Government Partnerships Office) to ensure excellence in curriculum implementation and support materials.
- Quality Assurance and Review: Provide guidance in the process of curriculum review and enhancement, ensuring a common, coherent, and consistent approach. Quality assure curriculum development deliverables.
- Budget and Resource Management: Manage the budget for specified area of responsibility, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to budget constraints. Plan for business continuity through effective contingency and resource planning.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with multiple external stakeholders, including schools, universities, and professional organizations. Represent the designated areas of responsibility and the IB in various contexts, including committees, school administrators, universities, and external agencies, to promote the mission of the organization.
- Research and Innovation: Work closely with the Education Innovation and Research departments to stay updated on educational research and major developments in teaching, learning, and international education to ensure academic rigour in the design of frameworks or specific offerings and components. Produce innovative resources supported by advances in technology to enhance curriculum design. Document and disseminate connections and ideas as a foundation for future curriculum development.
- Operational Efficiency: Achieve quality outcomes within agreed timelines and budget. Navigate and resolve conflicting viewpoints and diverse cultural assumptions to achieve desired outcomes. Use a project management approach to effectively scope, plan, manage risk and change, allocate resources, and prioritize goals.
