About the Job

The Director of Student Learning Design leads the development of the IB’s blueprint (specifications) for student learning – ensuring that curriculum, assessment, well-being and personal development are integrated into a coherent future-ready and human-centered learning experience. The Director ensures that the design of student learning is evidence-informed, globally relevant and developmentally coherent, supporting the IB mission of human and planetary flourishing in partnership within Education office and Community Office.

About You

  • Doctorate in Education with substantial experience leading Curriculum and/or Instruction design in an educational set up preferably in K12.
  • Experience and deep skills in pedagogy is essential.
  • An understanding of trends in designing programs for different kinds of learners is an highly preferred skill as is the understanding of (digital) assessment for learning and digital learning.
  • Demonstrated success designing program models and selecting innovative programs
  • Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool and experience working with information technology staff to design program evaluation systems
  • Ability to manage complex, multifaceted situations and initiatives as a senior leader resulting in measurable successes and program growth
  • Experience of having worked with a high-performance, collaborative, constructive peer group
  • Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility, span-of-control and performance
  • Demonstrated results in managing through complex systems and proven experience negotiating win-win agreements
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for IB’s mission
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to drive future developments for the organization
  • A proven commitment to international-mindedness and significant experience working with diverse cultures to achieve successful outcome

In addition to your salary, we offer an attractive range of regional benefits including:

  • Annual Salary in the region of EUR 133,699 - 167,123 (negotiable dependent on experience)

  • Lead the design, integration, and innovation of all aspects of student learning and development across the IB continuum.

  • Ensure alignment of curriculum, competencies, well-being, inclusion, pedagogy, and technology.

  • Maintain a coherent and evidence-informed learning model, ensuring relevance to future challenges and learner diversity.

  • Oversee collaboration across N-3 departments and with other IB divisions (e.g., Evaluation, School Services, Community Office).

  • Act as the strategic anchor to balance specialization with integration, and authorize the structure and composition of the team as needs evolve.

  • Must be an excellent and creative problem solver working across multi disciplines such as Research, School Design, Curriculum Development, as well as Assessment

  • Has the freedom to engage with a variety of colleagues across the IB particularly in the Community Office to keep an ear on the ground of how the learning needs of the students are being met

  • Encourages confidence in decision-making by balancing the need for analysis, consultation, judgment and ethics when making organizational level decision

  • Decisions made by this role serve as the blueprint and input for the development of curriculums and with impact on the IB programmes.


  • Lead the design, integration, and innovation of all aspects of student learning and development across the IB continuum.

  • Act as the strategic anchor to balance specialization with integration, and authorize the structure and composition of the team as needs evolve.
  • Significant decision-making authority within area of responsibility; responsible for implementing strategic initiatives, managing teams, and achieving business objectives.
  • Operate with autonomy and senior leadership within own teams and collaborate with senior leadership of other Offices, in particular the Community, Partnership & Development Office.
  • Resolve complex operational and strategic challenges within domain whilst optimizing processes, resolving conflicts, and driving organizational change.
