This role will report to the Sr Learning Architect Lead and work with a cross-functional team of subject matter experts, researchers, IB business leaders, and IB PL design thought leaders to design and develop an educator learning ecosystem to include formal and informal professional learning opportunities, creating a continuous learning journey for educators. This role involves the iterative development of an educator capabilities framework that will be the basis for the IB PD recognition system of micro credentials. This role also leads the broader architecture of professional learning for a given market portfolio which leads to teachers earning professional micro credentials to support growth in their practice and as professionals. Working closely with the Senior Content Operations Manager, this role will ensure that all content curated and produced for their market is in line with the overall content strategy and desired impact of the channel on educator professional learning

The learning architect will be accountable for the learning experience design and adult learning within the specific market (e.g., Non-IB/Consultancy, Adult Competencies, Onboarding, IBWS). As the design and learning sciences expert within the PL Design team the Senior Learning Architect will lead the product design in the rollout of IB’s next-generation professional learning model.

  • Extensive years of experience in a learning architect or senior L&D or instructional design role
  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience or higher; PhD preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in learning design, adult learning, teacher learning and knowledge structures
  • Demonstrated expertise in design of teacher professional learning systems that deliver the intended outcomes with results demonstrated through efficacy research
  • Previous experience developing certification pathways or micro-credentialing system and designing the learning that aligns to the micro-credentialing system
  • Previous experience in program assessment and evaluation, professional growth models, or train the trainer systems for professional learning and credentialing
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging expertise in teacher learning and knowledge with learning design and market input to develop a content strategy
  • Previous experience developing job-skills frameworks or competency-based learning models using data-driven (bottom up) as well as expert driven (top down) processes
  • A proven track record developing self-paced learning experience for an adult audience using scalable, efficient processes
  • Previous experience setting requirements, evaluating audience characteristics, and content and learning constraints when designing learning experiences
  • Previous classroom teaching experience

Strategy and Design

  • Establish the portfolio of designs for their market portfolio, deciding on the target and scope of coverage from internal, outsourced, and partner content, setting the direction for production content workstreams
  • Leverage the instructional design principles and specifications for both the formal and informal learning in alignment with the IB philosophy and approach to adult learning as applied across all IB programmes and non-affiliated audiences
  • Design a recognition system (i.e., micro credentials) of outstanding teaching practice aligned to IB’s Teacher Capabilities Framework, which together will be the recognition for all future formal and informal IB PD
  • Design the scope, user interface, and methodology for aligning learning outcomes learning experiences to the Capabilities Framework.
  • Design and scope sets of learning experiences and journeys which align to micro-credentials and ensure their smooth and timely handover to the production team
  • Ensure the design of the learning modules generate a portfolio of evidence of their professional learning so teachers have access to portfolio reviews to earn credentials
  • Establish and maintain clear content design requirements responding to feedback from instructional designers and educators based on data analytics from the learning platform
  • Lead the alignment of IB’s formal professional development offerings, including online and in person workshops, and other certification stakeholders to the Teacher Capabilities Framework and recognition framework for market portfolio
  • Contribute to the design and development of teacher self-assessment instruments to
    guide teacher engagement with content and propose learning modules for educators
  • Establish a process to create educator personas based on user data and IB educator persona information to guide content development and optimization
  • Lead the design of packages of content, premium content, facilitated premium content, and coaching products
  • Liaison with Research and Learning & Teaching teams as PD lead in all design and academic work associated with all programme implementation

Recognition framework

  • Design the training required for IB Educators to be awarded micro-credential for pre-requisites to IBEN roles.
  • As a thought leader ensure micro-credentials' value is recognized internally and externally, working with internal stakeholders across the organization to develop awareness and recognition of micro credentials as a currency of educator professional learning
  • Establish the learning outcomes and parameters for all learning aligned to micro-credentials in an open badging framework
  • Lead continuous improvement and alignment efforts to ensure the learning module and micro-credentials are kept up to date and current with IB thinking and research
  • Collaborate with research on formative and formal evaluation studies, leading instrument design to explore perceived self-efficacy and other metrics of performance and incorporating teacher feedback and recommendations from IB researchers to identify micro credentials and learning modules with the greatest impact on teacher performance.

Policy and Process

  • Partner with leaders from IB’s School’s Systems Design and Professional Development teams to reconcile Digital Channel micro credentials with the certificates teachers earn through formal workshops and other forms of professional learning.
  • Establish policies for the issuance and renewal of micro credentials, and work with IB’s World Schools and Marketing divisions to promote modular learning and micro-credentials with schools.
  • Collaborate with Policy and Design team to incorporate micro credentials into the larger IB Standards and Practices

Cross-Functional Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with the Operations Manager to ensure that all resources allocated to production are adequate and properly aligned with operational needs
  • Establish positive working relationships with cross-functional team members, ensuring that they are continuously up-to-date with busines and designs specifications of micro-credential, capabilities framework, and learning architecture.
  • Manage the quality control mechanism for product alignment to specification across teams through feedback to ensure a high standard of quality is met.
