Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum developer
Curriculum developer on the MYP team in the Education Office of the IB. Aligned to IB’s educational philosophy, MYP curriculum developers plan, manage and collaborate on the Enhancing the MYP project. Specifically, the curriculum review and development process ensure the MYP is more flexible and future focused. The contract is non-renewable, for 24 months, fixed term.
Job description
The MYP curriculum developer will join a team responsible for the completion of Enhancing the MYP programme and subject guidance (possibly related to language education or individuals and society, or contextual diversity, for example language progressions for additional language learners). Subsequently the curriculum developer will co-produce a wide range of diverse teacher support materials.
Responsibilities
The Middle Years Programme curriculum developer will:
- Provide curriculum and assessment design expertise
- Incorporate feedback on writing from a wide range of perspectives and keep to deadlines
- Stay informed to offer up-to-date insights into school practices and educational trends
- Lead, support and collaborate on projects that deliver high-quality, compelling and meaningful resources to IB schools, educators and students.
- Develop and contribute to innovative learning and teaching perspectives and practices that support an IB education.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Essential
At least 3 years MYP subject teaching AND/OR recent experience in MYP instructional coaching, coordination and/or curriculum design at a school-, district- or system-wide level, ensuring alignment with the MYP framework, interdisciplinary learning, and the IB ethos.
Expertise in the structure and progression of the MYP curriculum across all years, particularly in ensuring alignment with other IB programmes.
Excellent understanding of best practices in teaching the MYP, emerging developments and innovations in teaching, learning, culturally responsive education, grading for equity and assessment practices.
Ability to design and deliver curriculum content that reflects the principles of backwards planning, integrated learning, and the development of UDL across multiple disciplines.
Insight into the needs, interests and contexts of educators and students ages11-16.
Experience in taking on a variety of roles in a range of collaborative projects.
Experience in participating in critical conversations about curriculum development.
Desirable
Expertise in language learning and teaching, including familiarity with language learning progressions, frameworks (e.g., CEFR), and multilingual learner needs, AND/OR expertise in humanities/social sciences education
Familiarity with disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, conceptual learning, and global contexts.
Understanding of the relationship of the MYP to academic access and progression to the Diploma Programme.
Knowledge of teaching the MYP in more than one geographical, cultural, or socio-educational context (e.g., public/private, multilingual, high/low resourced settings)
Experience in Enhancing the MYP, e.g. participation in a basecamp, focus group and/or a development meeting
