What will you do as a Lecturer-Researcher Digital Forensics?

As a Lecturer-Researcher, you will be part of the English-taught Master's programme in Digital Forensics and work closely with the Digital Forensics & E-Discovery Research Group.

You will develop and deliver education based on the latest scientific insights and developments in the field. At the same time, you will actively contribute to applied research. Together with colleagues, students and partners from industry and public organisations, you will work on complex digital forensic challenges and research themes that directly contribute to the advancement of the field.

The Master's programme is currently in an exciting phase of development, giving you the opportunity to help shape the curriculum, embed your expertise in the programme, and contribute to the further development of both the Master's programme and the research group. Depending on your expertise, you will contribute to research in areas such as Digital Forensics Incident Response (DFIR), E-Discovery, Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), )Internet of Things (IoT) and Embedded Forensics.
Your responsibilities include:

  • Developing and delivering Master's level education, including assessment and evaluation.
  • Supervising students during research projects and Master's theses, ensuring academic quality and sound research methodology.
  • Initiating and conducting applied research within your area of expertise.
  • Translating research outcomes into innovative and up-to-date education.
  • Collaborating with national and international partners on current challenges within Digital Forensics.
  • Contributing to the further development of the Master's curriculum.

Your working environment

You will join a close-knit team of around ten colleagues, where collaboration, engagement and knowledge sharing are at the heart of everything we do. At the same time, you will be part of the broader Computer Science department at Hogeschool Leiden, consisting of approximately fifty colleagues. Staff and students know each other well and enjoy exploring emerging technologies and innovations together. This is reflected in educational activities such as the Laboratory Project and the Challenge Week, where experimentation and collaborative learning take centre stage.

You will primarily work from the HSD Campus (The Hague Security Delta) in The Hague, the Netherlands' leading innovation hub for cybersecurity and digital security. Here, you will work alongside companies, government organisations and knowledge institutions that collaborate daily on innovative solutions for digital security challenges.

You will also work closely with the Digital Forensics & E-Discovery Research Group, where applied research is conducted on current topics within the digital forensics domain. In addition, you will have access to the specialised Digital Forensics Lab, where research and professional practice come together.

What we offer

  • A completed Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Knowledge of Digital Forensics.
  • Preferably a PhD, or the ambition to further develop yourself as a researcher.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Data Science is an advantage.
  • Teaching qualification (BDB/BKE) or an equivalent teaching qualification, or the willingness to obtain one (we will support you in this process).
