Your Role

As a Business Control Officer, you will play a leading role in establishing and driving the business control function within FMO's Impact Department. This is a newly created position with significant visibility and ownership, offering the opportunity to shape how process governance, risk management, financial control, and compliance are embedded across the department.

Working closely with colleagues from Impact, Finance & Integrated Report Management (FIRM), Risk, Partnerships for Impact, Compliance and Audit, you will take ownership of strengthening the department's control environment and driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving financial oversight of grant-funded programs and delegated partnerships, including compliance with donor requirements and accreditation standards
  • Building internal capacity in financial procedures best practices, including design of systems and processes that increase process effectiveness and efficiency
  • Coordinating budgeting, forecasting and business performance reporting activities, working closely with FIRM counterparts
  • Analyzing program and product (DC) financial performance, balancing internal and external stakeholder needs, to propose and implement improvements
  • Coordinating and driving the risk monitoring and audit cycles, including reporting to the Impact Management Team
  • Updating the Impact Department’s risk and control framework, as necessary, in the context of increasingly complex programs management.
  • Strengthening financial management, reporting, governance, and operational processes.
  • Influencing business development initiatives by embedding control, risk, and regulatory considerations from the outset.

  • Gross yearly salary ranging from EUR 75-85K (based on 40 hours per week, including 8% holiday allowance and 13th month) depending on your seniority, years of relevant experience, and background).

  • Working hours: 40 hours per week.

  • Fixed-term contract: 1 year (with the possibility of a 1-year extension)
  • Pension scheme, partly paid by FMO.

  • 31 holidays.

  • Hybrid way of working (at least 3 days in the office).

  • Working remotely abroad for maximum 60 days in a rolling period of 12 months.

Your Team

The Impact Department manages FMO's Development Contributions (DC) product line, which deploys grant funding from public and philanthropic partners to support market creation, technical assistance and pipeline development in emerging markets. This department also drives FMO's ambitions on SDG 10 (Reducing Inequality) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) through impact structuring, market creation and technical assistance.

The role is positioned within the Market Creation Agriculture, Food, Forestry & Energy (MC AFF & EN) team and works closely with colleagues across FMO, as well as external funding partners and stakeholders.

Your Background

You are an experienced finance, risk, audit or control professional who enjoys taking ownership, driving change and bringing structure to complex environments.

You bring:

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in Finance, Risk, Compliance, Control, Audit or a related field.
  • Master's degree or post-academic qualification in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related discipline (e.g. RA, RC, CPA, CA).
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including advanced Excel and Power BI skills.
  • Experience in the financial sector; experience with development finance, public finance or grant management is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
