Your Role
The PE Energy team is looking for an Analyst. The Analyst is a core member of the team responsible for achieving the PE department goals and objectives. She/he is primarily responsible for portfolio management while also selectively supporting relevant Investment Officers (IO) in the investment process: sourcing, screening and selection, internal approvals and execution. Together with the IO, the Analyst manages the relationship with the investees and seeks to create value for the companies. As part of the Private Equity department, she/he is also expected to contribute to broader organizational topics and projects.
- Managing a portfolio of investments together with the (Senior) Investment Officers, which consists of:
- Preparing investment reviews and fair value assessments.
- Processing disbursements, capital calls; change requests, etc.
- Performance tracking of existing investments analyzes key financial and operational metrics and recommends portfolio adjustments as needed.
- Contributing to preparing required legal documents in cooperation with the Legal department.
- Follow (macro-economic) news, market developments and trends.
- Gather and maintain up-to-date information from various (financial) databases, ensuring file completion.
- Actively engaging in shareholder/board/AC meetings, typically coordinated/led by the (Senior) Investment Officers.
- Maintaining a strong relationship with investees by understanding their business, following their development trajectory closely, assessing follow-on investment opportunities, and continuously identifying areas of value add for FMO (including in CD, E&S, and CG).
- Supporting the selection, assessment, due diligence (including KYC customer due diligence), and execution of new and follow-on investments.
- Supporting with the implementation of the value creation plan and the active monitoring of the investee, ensuring that the investment progresses as initially envisaged or assisting in preparing an updated value creation plan.
- Supporting the exit of investees up to and including a collection of funds.
- Contributing to implementing the PE Energy team’s strategy into the broader organization (including project or process-related activities).
- Working on sector analysis, market mappings, and strategy documents

Your Team
Private Equity is an essential part of FMO's business providing growth capital for mid-sized companies via direct and fund investments. Within the Private Equity department, the Energy team focuses on various sectors in the clean energy transition space. These are renewable energy generation, distributed energy, storage, and innovative new sectors such as e-mobility and hydrogen. This diverse team (5 nationalities) is passionate about investing while creating a development impact. Furthermore, this team oversees 1) executing investments in clean energy and energy transition-focused private equity funds and co- and direct investments in the same sectors in emerging markets worldwide, 2) managing an existing portfolio of investments, and 3) realizing exits at attractive returns. This team is supported by dedicated Environmental & Social specialists.
Your Background
Master's degree in finance, economics, or similar.
- At 1-2 years of relevant experience, preferably in the financial services or renewable energy sector.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Solid financial modeling skills (Excel).
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong skills in planning, organizing, coordinating, and prioritizing (process management).
- Ability/flexibility to cope with continuously changing circumstances (i.e., investment performance, financing requirements, investor consortia), short timelines, and working on several assignments simultaneously.
- Strong team skills, contributing to team success and a constructive, positive, and collaborative work environment.
Competences
To thrive in this role, you possess a keen curiosity and a profound affinity with the PE energy sector in emerging markets. Your commitment to service excellence and a client-focused approach should be evident in your professional track record. Demonstrating an analytical mindset, you should have a robust ability to examine and challenge business and financial models effectively and dive into the details of legal documentation such as LPAs, SPAs, and ISHAs, as well as energy project (finance) related documentation. You need to excel at working together as a proactive, hands-on individual with a solution-oriented mindset and a getting- things-done approach. Lastly, you bring a growth mindset and are comfortable providing and receiving feedback regularly.
