Your Role

The Financial Institutions Department is seeking an Investment Officer for the Latin America and Caribbean team that consists of 14 professionals. This team has a strong regional network and market position.

The team manages a portfolio of more than 40 clients with a total committed portfolio of around EUR 2 bln. It contributes to FMO’s objectives by providing debt facilities aligned with SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 10 (Reducing Inequalities), catalyzing third-party funding, leading sector initiatives, and strengthening client performance through targeted Technical Assistance.

In this role you cover Latin America and the Caribbean. You report to the Regional Manager and work within the Financial Institutions LAC team. The position is based headquarters in The Hague/The Netherlands.

Responsibilities

  • Business development: You contribute to origination activities, prepare customer account plans and country strategies, and you identify innovative business opportunities.
  • Relationship management: You build and maintain strong client and prospect relationships through deep understanding of their business, market, operating environment, and key risks, supported by regular visits and calls.
  • Portfolio management: You ensure quality and timely delivery of internal documents (e.g. FPs, reviews, change and waiver requests and disbursements).
  • Team collaboration: You actively contribute to defining the FI LAC strategy and business plan with the manager and (S)IO colleagues.
  • Transaction structuring: You structure transactions in collaboration with Legal, Environmental, Syndications, Know Your Customer, and other specialist teams.

  • Gross yearly salary ranging from EUR 80-90k (based on 40 hours per week, including 8% holiday allowance and 13th month) depending on your seniority, years of relevant experience, and background).

  • Working remotely abroad for maximum 60 days in a rolling period of 12 months.

Your Team

The FI Department consists of more than 60 professionals organized into four regional teams: Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa (ECA‑MENA), and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

Within this structure, the Latin America and Caribbean (FI LAC) team is a well‑established and strategically important team with a strong market position and deep local networks. Covering a diverse and dynamic region, the team works with a broad range of financial institutions to promote inclusive and sustainable financial sectors through long‑term client relationships and impactful transactions.

Your Background

  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field.
  • 6-8 years of relevant experience, including substantial exposure to emerging markets and debt financing in the financial sector.
  • Proven track record in deal origination, structuring, and execution.
  • Strong financial analysis, credit assessment, and problem‑solving skills across transactions, clients, and portfolios.
  • Ability to analyze financial and economic data, markets, and credit drivers.
  • Experience structuring sound investments that balance client needs, risk management, and FMO’s development mandate, including E&S and human rights standards.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Spanish.
