Your Role
In your role as Technical Assistance Associate you will be responsible for the following activities:
Prospection and Pipeline Development
- Support Business Development and Technical Assistance Officers in identifying and assessing new Market Creation opportunities aligned with strategy and funding requirements.
- Assist in building, maintaining, and monitoring a robust pipeline of interventions.
Transaction Execution
- Support information gathering, data analysis, and desk reviews throughout the intervention approval process.
- Participate in due diligence activities and provide documentation and process support across intervention lifecycles.
Reporting, Learning and Portfolio Management
- Support portfolio monitoring, including contractual requirements and performance tracking.
- Maintain accurate reporting on pipeline, origination, and Market Creation activities, ensuring alignment with program coordination efforts.
- Capture and share lessons learned to strengthen knowledge management and improve implementation effectiveness.
- Contribute to portfolio analysis by identifying trends, risks, gaps, and opportunities to inform decision-making.
- Assist in developing and improving methodologies, tools, and processes that enhance Market Creation activities.
Administration and Collaboration
- Support preparation of agendas and meeting materials, take minutes, and ensure timely follow-up and distribution of actions.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Market Creation Agribusiness, Food & Forestry, Energy, Technical Assistance, and Sustainable Finance Advisory teams.
- Contribute to departmental initiatives, process improvements, and cross-team collaboration.

- Gross yearly salary ranging from EUR 60-70K (based on 40 hours/ week, including 8% holiday allowance and 13th month) depending on your seniority, years of relevant experience, and background

- Hybrid way of working (at least 3 days in the office).
- Working remotely abroad for maximum 60 days in a rolling period of 12 months.

Your Team
The Impact Department drives FMO’s goals on SDG10 and SDG13 through impact structuring, market creation and technical assistance. The Market Creation Financial Institutions team delivers on FMO’s Market Creation strategy by designing and managing technical assistance programs and interventions. We build partnerships, develop innovative solutions, and deploy catalytic capital to turn high-impact opportunities into investable projects, expanding FMO’s pipeline and impact in emerging markets. You will report to the Manager of the Market Creation FI team and work closely with the team’s Technical Assistance and Business Development professionals.
Your Background
- Master’s degree in Development Economics, Business, Finance, International Development, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in technical assistance, grant making, advisory services, program management, or TA facility management.
- Strong understanding of private sector development, emerging markets, and international development.
- Experience working in Africa and supporting financial sector development, financial inclusion, or entrepreneurship initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience managing donor-funded programs and engaging with donor partners.
- Knowledge of financial sector and economic trends.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally.
- French and/or Portuguese language skills are an advantage.
