Your role

As an intern, you will aid in the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of software solutions for financial risk models for credit risk. Your role will be assisting the mentoring financial risk manager in the process of model implementation. This internship will provide you with the opportunity to familiarize yourself with software requirements within the banking industry and enhance your knowledge in other financial risk management topics as well.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting the mentoring financial risk manager in the design of a software development standard for the team.
• Cross-team collaboration and communication to understand requirements from a variety of stakeholders.
• Development and implementation of risk models as software solutions.
• Collaborate closely with the mentor financial risk manager, the entire FRM team, and other colleagues to ensure alignment and coordination.
• Track tasks with the mentor to ensure timely completion and adherence to timelines.

The team

In this role, you will be a part of the Financial Risk Management (FRM) team, an enthusiastic team with the mission to assess the risk that FMO is exposed to and make sure that it remains within the risk appetite limits. The team supports FMO in delivering on its strategy within its financial means and regulatory boundaries. Our focus is not only to ensure that FMO operates within its risk appetite but also to enable new and innovative business initiatives, making sure all the relevant risks are properly factored, assessed and mitigated if necessary. The team is responsible for a wide range of risk areas and processes, including (counterparty) credit risk, equity risk, interest rate risk, currency risk, (country/client) concentration risk, business model risk, climate-related risks as well as the overall capital and liquidity adequacy.

The team designs, develops, and maintains a number of software applications as part of its model development and maintenance mandate. We are currently seeking an intern who will join the FRM team to work on software engineering projects related to financial risk model implementation and testing.

Your background

• You are a currently a Bachelor’s or Master's student and this internship is a requirement for your study (ECTS-eligible).
• You have a background in computer science or software engineering.
• You are available for three months, for 2 to 4 days per week, starting as soon as possible.
• You have an interest in software applications in banking and risk management.
• You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• You are fluent in English.
• You are based in the Netherlands.
