Where Lab Innovation Powers a Circular Economy

Ever dreamt of turning lab breakthroughs into real-world sustainability? At CETIM (A Coruña, Spain), it´s not just about extracting metals—it´s about redefining resource recovery. If you thrive on transforming waste into wealth through precise R&D, this is your catalyst moment.

Why Your Research Will Matter Here

Picture this: your work directly converts electronic waste, industrial residues, and critical raw materials into valuable resources. No massive mining scales—just impactful science using reactors (1L) and matrass flasks (100L) to build Europe’s circular future. This is not a role for someone who wants to work in large-scale mining operations—it’s for an R&D scientist who loves the challenge of optimizing processes at the lab and pilot scale, using advanced equipment and experimental design.

What You’ll Do
• Design and optimize hydrometallurgical processes for the valorization and recovery of critical raw materials, metals, and residues—think e-waste, tailings, and industrial by-products.
• Conduct experiments at pilot scale (from 1L reactors to 100L flasks), focusing on leaching, precipitation, and solvent extraction.
• Lead and mentor 2 technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performing lab environment.
• Play a key role in valorization projects that turn waste into high-value products, driving sustainable resource independence and circular economy goals.
• Co-author research proposals together with your supervisor, the Principal Investigator (PI) of the area—you’ll never be alone in this.
• Advance biohydrometallurgy techniques (ideal if you have experience) to enhance metal recovery efficiency and sustainability.
What You Bring to the Table
• MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field, with hands-on R&D experience (not large-scale mining).
• Practical knowledge of lab-scale hydrometallurgy (reactors, flasks) and a passion for critical-material recovery and process innovation.
• Experience in biohydrometallurgy is a major plus.
• Strong communication skills in Spanish and English (B2+ level).
• A collaborative mindset and a drive to see research move from the lab to real-world impact.
• Nationality is not a barrier—if you have the skills, we want to hear from you.

Why CETIM?
As a leader in sustainable technology, CETIM offers more than a lab—we offer impact. You’ll join a team accelerating Europe’s circular economy, with resources to turn your ideas into industrial solutions. Here, autonomy meets purpose: no bureaucratic hurdles, just science that reshapes industries.

And there’s more: the quality of life in A Coruña is truly fantastic.
You’ll enjoy a vibrant coastal city with a mild climate, stunning beaches, a rich cultural scene, and world-class cuisine. The cost of living is affordable, public transport is efficient, and the city’s safety and health standards are among the highest in Spain. Whether you love outdoor sports, fresh seafood, or scenic walks along the 13-kilometre seafront promenade, A Coruña offers a lifestyle that’s hard to beat.

What’s in It for You?
• Permanent role in a pioneering research center.
• State-of-the-art labs and pilot facilities.
• Leadership opportunity managing technical staff.
• Professional growth through conferences, publications, and mentorship.
• Multicultural team focused on tangible environmental outcomes.
• The chance to live and work in one of Spain’s most desirable coastal cities.
