Your role
As a student advisor, you contribute to the study success and personal development of RSM students by providing effective academic advising services. You support students in their development of necessary competencies such as making thorough choices and creating effective study plans, as well as how to set academic, career and personal goals. You encourage students to remain on track with their studies, supporting them to stay the course and graduate in a timely manner.
Your relevant work experience and affinity for working with both national and international students serve you well. You are autonomous, pro-active and an excellent team player. Along with a good sense of humour you are empathic, culturally sensitive and open-minded.
Your main tasks
In this role, you:
- Provide information to students, both individually and in groups
- Give students one-to-one guidance on both personal and academic issues
- When necessary, refer students to other professionals at Erasmus University such as university psychologists and student counsellors
- Meet with students to discuss study-related problems and study skills
- Advise students on strategies to meet binding study advice requirements, master admission requirements, programme choices (e.g., electives, minor, exchange, internship)
- Advise students about options outside of their programme (e.g., extra-curricular activities, choosing a master programme, career issues)
- Monitor students’ study progress and invite them to meet with a student adviser
- Advise the examination board on individual arrangements with students
- Closely cooperate with colleagues from the different departments of RSM involved in teaching and supportive student services
Required qualifications
Your qualifications:
- You hold a master degree (wo) or bachelor degree (hbo)
- Preferably, your field of study is in the social sciences
Your required competencies
Your competences:
- Relevant experience working in a higher education environment
- A completed formal training and experience in individual counselling
- Excellent communication skills
- Highly proficient and fluent in Dutch (C1 level in CEFR) and English (C1 level)
- Able to maintain detailed records of your activities and all contact with the students you advise
- Experience with student information systems, preferably Osiris and CANVAS, and verifiable experience with Microsoft 365 (e.g., with Excel, Teams, Sharepoint)

Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 3,072 (scale 8 CAO NU) and up to a maximum of € 5,090 gross per month (scale 10 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.
