Postdoc Theoretical Biophysics Across Scales (Delft, NL, 2628 CD)

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft)

Posted on Jul 6, 2026

Job description

Living systems process and respond to signals, and these responses range molecular or electrical changes inside a (neuronal) cell to macroscopic behavioural responses of animals. Both signals and responses occur over time, in a dynamically changing landscape. The goal of this position is to investigate information transfer in dynamical systems, ranging from molecular to macroscopic scales. The position is theoretical but relies on experimental collaborations that span these scales. Interest in developing at least one of these directions is welcome! The postdoctoral researcher will be a member of the Bauer group at the Bionanoscience department at TUDelft.

Job requirements

The applicant should hold a recent PhD in Theoretical Biophysics and an undergraduate degree in Physics, with a background in information theory and stochastic physics applied to biological data. Further requirements include past experience with:

  • Teaching and advising undergraduates.
  • Experimental collaborations, ideally having resulted in publication.
  • Independent research projects.
  • Projects in the context of molecular processes, ie. chemical or mechanical information transfer.
