What does the role of a Lecturer in Industrial Safety involve?
There is a strong demand for knowledge and expertise among our teaching staff. Within the programme, you combine theoretical insight with practical experience, translating your safety science perspective on technology, people, and organisations—and their interactions—into engaging education.

You will teach students in matters of health and safety management in industrial and corporate settings. You will help students, in all four years of the programme, understand the role of management systems, introduce them to modern approaches to risk, and help them make sense of relevant international laws, regulations, and compliance standards. In addition, you will contribute to the ongoing development of the curriculum and supervise students throughout their graduation phase. You will also be responsible for project supervision and for supporting students in achieving their academic and professional goals. As such, you will also help students learn about leadership and management responsibilities, and what it means to navigate challenges and dealing with various stakeholders in dynamic safety-related professions.

About your workplace
The Bachelor’s programme Safety and Security Management Studies (SSMS) is offered by the Faculty of Public Management, Law and Safety (Bestuur, Recht en Veiligheid, BRV) at The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS). SSMS is a four-year bachelor’s programme that provide students with education across the broad domain of integral safety management, with particular focus on public, (inter)national, and industrial safety issues.

SSMS is an English-taught full-time track enrolling around 500 students from across the globe. The SSMS team of approximately 25 lecturers, practical instructors, and advisors prepares students for professional practice in the field of safety and security in close collaboration with partners from an extensive network of professional organisations.

About the PLS Faculty
The Faculty of Public Management, Law and Safety offers an inspiring international learning and working environment, educating students to become professionals in the city of international law, peace, and security. The faculty employs approximately 255 staff members who deliver education to a student population of over 4,000 students.

Other programmes offered at the the faculty include Public Administration, Law (HBO-Rechten), as well as English-taught degree programmes including International Public Policy and Leadership, and International and European Law. All programmes are based at the university’s main campus in The Hague.

Wat vragen wij van jou?

We are seeking a lecturer who can thrive in an academic teaching environment. The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a relevant master’s degree;

  • Have professional experience as a safety specialist in both the public and private sector (e.g. in safety and facility management, external safety, environmental safety, physical protection, dangerous goods, process safety, fire safety, cyber security, oil and gas, shipping and/or aviation, transportation logistics, , etc.);

  • Have experience with developing and/or giving formal safety training (e.g., MoSHE);

  • Demonstrate a strong interest in, and some experience with, engaging and effective teaching, instructing, and guiding students;

  • Be proficient in English, both written and spoken (Dutch proficiency highly desirable);

  • Possess a formal teaching qualification (BDB or BKE), or be willing to obtain this certification with an open mind to innovative learning methods;

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to both the development and delivery of the curriculum, ensuring high-quality education for our diverse student body.

  • A D4 employment contract for one year, based on a full-time position (24 hours, 0,6 FTE);

  • A salary ranging from € 4.427,64 to € 6.677,44 per month, based on a full-time position;

  • A guaranteed year-end bonus of 8.3%;

  • A sustainable travel allowance: if you choose public transport, you will receive an NS Business Card 2nd class in your name, fully reimbursed by The Hague University of Applied Sciences;
