The role

As a BI Developer at Damen Digital Solutions, you will play a key role in our Data Science & Analytics team, working alongside data scientists, engineers, and UI/UX designers in an agile environment. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining our embedded PowerBI reporting solutions. Transforming complex maritime vessel operations - captured by IoT-data - into clear, scalable, insightful and actionable visualizations. Empowering vessel operators to make informed, data-driven decisions on operational performance, cost efficiencies, emissions and smart maintenance.

In this role you focus on business intelligence, dashboarding and Power BI development, working with maritime IoT data and consuming outputs from data science models where available. You deliver embedded Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions on Azure (DAX, Power Query, DirectQuery) that enable ship owners to reduce emissions and improve operational performance.

Experience in B2C environments, digital products or customer-facing analytics platforms is considered equally valuable.

The role focuses on transferable BI and Power BI skills, such as data modeling, dashboard design, dashboarding, stakeholder communication and embedded analytics.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate use cases of shipowners into valuable insights and actionable analytics.

• Ensure the quality, consistency, and visual appeal of embedded Power BI reports and data visualizations.

• Collaborate closely with team members and UI/UX designers to develop data-driven models and innovative products.

• Automate and standardize report generation processes for over 450 customers, driving operational excellence.

• Present and communicate data-driven solutions effectively to stakeholders.

• Identify and pursue business opportunities using data-driven methodologies.

Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as data analytics, computer science, or information management.

• Extensive hands-on experience (1–3 years) in Power BI reporting and dashboard development, including DAX, Power Query, statefulness, templating, and Direct Query in embedded and hybrid environments.

• 1–3 years of experience in business intelligence and data analytics, with a solid understanding of business contexts and customer needs.

• Proven ability to translate complex analyses into actionable insights for non-technical audiences.

• Strong grasp of design principles and data visualization techniques to create clear, impactful reports.

• Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, SQL, Azure Synapse and analytics platforms.

• Understanding of data analytics processes, data science methodologies, and data engineering principles.

• Organized and structured work style, with meticulous attention to detail.

• Excellent team collaboration skills, with a proactive and curious approach to problem-solving.

• Demonstrates a growth mindset and a strong interest in continuous learning and professional development.
