CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis is seeking a researcher or senior researcher with knowledge of economic models for the Climate programme. Do you enjoy exploring issues related to climate and energy policy, such as how abolishing fossil fuel subsidies in the Netherlands is affecting the competitiveness of Dutch industry? Or, how the supply and demand of hydrogen will develop in the future and what role policy will play in this? If you enjoy model-based research into these types of questions and have experience with or a feel for modelling, we’re looking for you!
We are looking for an employee with research experience. You should be able to conduct independent research, initiate new research, actively maintain a network within policy and science, and represent CPB externally. If you are a senior researcher, we also expect you to have what it takes to take the lead in research projects and publish in scientific journals.
You will join a dedicated team of highly skilled professionals working on economic projections and policy-relevant economic research. You will quantify and analyse the socio-economic effects of policy options and make a valuable contribution to maintaining and improving CPB’s models. In doing so, you will work at the interface between economic research and policy, answer questions from external parties and interact with both policymakers and the academic world.
Who we are looking for
- You are a university graduate, preferably with a Master’s degree or Research Master in economics, econometrics, mathematics or physics. A PhD and/or relevant work experience are a plus. Senior researchers are also expected to have demonstrable experience in developing economic models.
- You have R, Matlab, GAMS and/or Python programming experience.
- You have demonstrable affinity with both policy issues and quantitative economic analyses.
- Researchers should have or be keen to develop a strong affinity with the climate theme. We expect senior researchers to have demonstrable climate, energy and economics knowledge.
- You are a team player who actively and enthusiastically exchanges knowledge, information and ideas with others.
- You possess strongly developed analytical skills and are able to present new solutions, ideas and unexpected perspectives.
- You are skilled in forming an opinion based on relevant argumentation and arriving at a considered judgement.
- You are able to explain complex issues clearly and win others over to an idea with compelling arguments.
- You are results-oriented and able to meet deadlines.
- If you are not a Dutch speaker but meet the job requirements and are willing to learn the necessary Dutch language skills (both written and spoken), you are also welcome to apply. Dutch is our working language and we will actively support you in your efforts to master the language.
