About us

CarbonX is an advanced materials company based in Delft, developing a revolutionary carbon material for the next generation of batteries. A fast-growing spin-off from TU Delft, we now operate at commercial scale with global clients, international partners, and a growing team of innovators. Our labs and offices are located in Delft, and our work contributes to building a more resilient and sustainable battery supply chain.

What You’ll Do

We’re looking for a hands-on Lab Supervisor to make sure our production lab runs safely, efficiently, and with the right systems in place as we grow into our new facilities in Delft. You’ll be the point person for all lab operations — from coordinating installations and procurement to maintaining safety, documentation, and workflow standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily lab operations, ensuring equipment, utilities, and safety systems function smoothly.

  • Coordinate with contractors and suppliers on lab installations, equipment setup, and maintenance.

  • Manage procurement and inventory of chemicals, consumables, and gases.

  • Implement and uphold lab safety, GLP, and 5S standards, including documentation and risk assessments.

  • Support onboarding and training of lab users, promoting safe and efficient work practices.

  • Drive continuous improvements in organization, workflow, and operational excellence across production activities.

Why You’ll Love It Here

  • Impact: Be at the heart of producing sustainable CarbonX materials for global markets, transforming industries and reducing environmental impact.

  • Growth: As CarbonX scales, so can your career. You’ll have opportunities to lead projects and expand your skills.

  • Team Culture: Join a collaborative, feedback-driven team where your insights and ideas are truly valued.

  • Innovation: Work on cutting-edge processes and technologies in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Benefits: Competitive salary, commuting allowance, 25 days of annual paid leave, 30% ruling support if applicable.

Who You Are

You’re an organized, proactive, and hands-on lab professional who enjoys structure and solving practical problems. You take ownership of your environment, communicate clearly, and thrive in a dynamic, collaborative setting.

Requirements

  • HBO/BSc degree in Chemistry

  • 5+ years of hands-on lab experience in an analytical lab

  • Strong understanding of lab safety procedures and GLP

  • Experience setting up and managing labs incl. equipment instalment, calibration and maintenance

  • Fluency in both English and Dutch is a must

  • Willingness to travel occasionally (2–3 times per year for production projects abroad)

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with analytical techniques (e.g., nitrogen physisorption, rheology, Raman, SEM, Karl Fischer titration)

  • Familiarity with carbon materials
