At CarbonX, we’re transforming the battery industry with cutting-edge materials that outperform traditional graphite in batteries. Our efficient production process minimizes energy use and emissions, fosters local manufacturing, and reduces reliance on conventional graphite supply chains.
As we grow, we’re moving from the lab to full-scale production—and we are looking for a Product & Process Engineer who will play a crucial part in making it happen.
What You’ll Do
As a Product & Process Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in developing, testing, and scaling up our emulsion and powder production processes. This role blends hands-on lab work, process engineering, and production oversight.
Your responsibilities will include:
Lab Work & Product Development (60%)
- Experiment with emulsion components and preparing emulsions.
- Analyse stability and rheology of the emulsion.
- CarbonX production on lab scale.
- Conduct powder analyses, including SEM, etc.
Production & Post-Production Processing (40%)
- Run equipment checks at production sites.
- Supervise large-scale emulsion preparation during production runs, ensuring precision in component additions.
- Communicate efficiently with on-site production engineers and operators.
- Assist in the design and construction of a mixing plant in the Netherlands.
- Identify and collaborate with post-production partners.
This role involves occasional travel to production sites—approximately six weeks per year, with potential for increased travel in subsequent years.
Why You’ll Love It Here
Impact: Be part of producing hundreds of tons of sustainable CarbonX materials for global markets, transforming industries and reducing environmental impact.
Growth: As CarbonX scales, so can your career. You’ll have opportunities to develop new skills and advance within the company.
Team Culture: Join a collaborative, feedback-driven team where your insights and ideas are valued.

- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
- Experience: at least 4 years of experience in process engineering, chemical engineering, or related roles.
Must-have skills:
- Ability to analyse and apply insights from process flow diagrams (PFDs).
- Expertise in conducting HAZOP reviews.
- Experience designing and managing a production plant.
- Reporting and documentation skills.

- Data / Machine Learning experience.
What Success Will Look Like:
Short-Term (2-4 months)
- Become fully trained on production-related analysis equipment and reactors in our Delft lab.
- Qualify chemicals for upcoming production runs.
Mid-Term (4-12 months)
- Supervise emulsion preparation during production runs.
- Further develop emulsion for higher efficiency.
