Job Description

We are seeking a skilled, forward-thinking, and highly motivated lawyer who is able to manage
multiple priorities.

This role will be based in our European HQ (Oegstgeest, The Netherlands) and will focus on Sustainability for the company and sit within the Materials Group business in EMENA. In your role, you will be expected to partner with and provide proactive legal advice on European and international environmental laws and sustainability frameworks to our various businesses. You will work closely with leaders, others in the company, and the law department on all legal matters. You will also be responsible for managing outside counsel on specific projects and litigation and be a key member of the legal team.

• Advise on European and international environmental laws and sustainability frameworks,
including the EU Green Deal, Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Corporate
Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), and other ESG regulations, and implement a
process for global regulatory tracking for sustainability on a proactive basis.
• Monitor the evolving regulatory landscape and advise on emerging sustainability regulations
and related legal trends. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate their impact on
business operations, strategy, and corporate governance.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of complex agreements, including those with
sustainability and ESG considerations (e.g., vendor and supplier contracts).
• Support sustainability-related disclosures, including alignment with global ESG reporting
frameworks (e.g., GRI, TCFD, ISSB). Serve as a trusted advisor to the Materials Group
EMENA business teams, providing sound, business-focused, and strategic guidance on legal
matters to leadership, functional leaders, and others in sales, marketing, R&D, procurement,
finance, IT, and HR. Such matters include a wide variety of regulatory and compliance issues;
ESG issues; marketing and advertising; product liability; and EHS.
• Identify and effectively communicate risks and legal developments to leadership, functional
leaders, and colleagues in the law department. Work closely with them to provide and
implement strategic and pragmatic legal advice.
• Develop and deliver training to internal clients on environmental and regulatory topics.
• Contribute to a positive working environment within the legal department, cultivating an
environment that supports diversity, trust, and respect.

Qualifications

• European qualified lawyer with an LLM or a corresponding qualification.
• A registered member of a European bar association or holding an equivalent practicing
certificate.
• Minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience in environmental law and sustainability
matters.

• Strong knowledge of laws and regulations regarding sustainability and ESG compliance.
• Experience advising on corporate sustainability strategies and frameworks.

• Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Solid project management skills and a good understanding of Enterprise Lean Six Sigma.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
