Job Description

As a key partner to the commercial teams, the Senior Manager Product Stewardship for the Materials Group EU (MG EU) leads a team to ensure that company products meet regulatory requirements and standards and market expectations throughout their lifecycle. This team conducts assessments of product specifications, materials, and manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and manage risks and unlock market opportunities. The team collaborates with product development and product management teams to identify potential compliance issues early in the design phase and implement necessary adjustments to meet regulatory requirements and mitigate identified risks. They monitor updates to regulatory frameworks and communicate changes to internal stakeholders, advising on necessary actions to maintain compliance as well as potential business opportunities. They lead implementation of the company’s governance system for the region, maintaining records for product compliance documentation and certifications, facilitating audits, and conducting regulatory reporting. They partner with senior leadership and stakeholders such as legal, R&D, procurement, marketing, sales, and quality to address compliance-related concerns and drive continuous improvement initiatives to support business strategies. This leader will be instrumental in translating our robust compliance foundation into a clear competitive advantage in the marketplace.

The Senior Manager Product Stewardship establishes goals that align their teams with business strategy. They are responsible for the overall results and performance of their team by directing and delegating assignments in a way that allows team members to grow while ensuring successful outcomes. They coach team members and provide clear feedback to help develop skills and capabilities while motivating and leading their teams through change. They create a healthy, inclusive environment by facilitating open expression of ideas, opinions, and perspectives to drive better decisions and outcomes.

Position duties include but are not limited to:

1. Strategic & Commercial Partnership

  • Partner with Marketing stakeholders on strategic initiatives to leverage compliance to differentiate products and enhance competitive edge.

  • Provide strategic guidance to the regional leadership team on emerging regulatory trends, translating potential threats into opportunities for innovation and market leadership.

  • Lead the team’s direct and indirect engagement with converters and end-users, acting as the senior technical and regulatory voice to solve customer challenges, gather market insights, and build trust throughout the value chain.

  • Develop and deliver compelling communication tools (e.g., white papers, presentations) that clearly explain complex compliance topics to a commercial audience, helping our customers navigate their own challenges.

  • Provide product stewardship and compliance guidance in new product development processes and to product development teams.

2. Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5+ people with specific product stewardship and compliance subject matter expertise to accomplish business objectives.

  • Lead training of internal and external stakeholders on compliance topics as needed.

  • Participate on teams and task forces in support of company goals and objectives.

3. Operational Excellence & Governance

  • Ensure that products meet regulatory and market requirements and are suitable for their intended use.

  • Lead support of customer inquiries regarding compliance of MG EU products with various regulatory or customer product safety or environmental requirements.

  • Manage the database of compliance and safety information on MG EU products, partnering with suppliers to ensure data is current and accurate.

  • Coordinate product safety testing of products as needed to satisfy regulatory requirements or customer needs.

  • Implement guidance for MG EU from corporate product stewardship and compliance for new product regulatory and sustainability expectations.

  • Seek assistance as needed from corporate product compliance for complex product compliance requests or issues.

  • Exercise the highest degree of discretion when handling all confidential matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or scientific discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering) is required. An advanced degree is highly desirable.

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in product compliance, regulatory affairs, or product stewardship, preferably within the CPG, specialty materials, or chemical industry.

  • At least 3 years of experience in a formal people leadership role is required.

  • Exceptional skill in communicating complex technical and regulatory information to diverse audiences, from R&D chemists to brand managers, technical sales, buyers and senior leadership, in a clear, confident, and persuasive manner.

  • Cross cultural experience required and global experience preferred

  • EU industry experience and networking relationships preferred

  • Ability to prioritize and complete projects and assignments, exercising frequent independent judgment, initiative, and tact.

  • Experience in handling highly confidential matters.

  • Willingness to accept increased responsibilities and meet the demands of the region in a mature and professional manner, whether working independently or as part of a team.

  • Proficiency of applicable computer systems, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Internet and learning function specific software.

  • Proficient written and oral communication skills in English.

  • Excellent customer service skills and able to work across different cultures.

  • Excellent time-management, organizational and project management skills.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Accurate typing, spelling and grammar skills.

  • Functional (Matrix) reporting to Director, Product Compliance
