You will be part of Global Asset Engineering and Design team, a corporate function in APM Terminals HQ, responsible for the technical and financial evaluation of terminal development and investment projects across APM Terminals’ global portfolio.
About the role:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join our Global Asset Engineering and Design team. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of our port and terminal infrastructure by contributing to the development, procurement, and delivery of large-scale civil and marine infrastructure projects.
You will play a key role in translating commercial and operational needs into technical specifications, leading the development of Employer’s Requirements, and supporting the execution of infrastructure projects globally.
Reporting to Head of Global Asset Engineering and Design, position will be based preferably in The Hague, or Barcelona as second choice. (Expected global travel is around 20%.)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert input into new terminal construction and expansion projects.
- Develop and maintain Standard Employer’s Requirements (SER) for civil works.
- Translate operational and commercial needs into technical specifications and design requirements.
- Conduct feasibility studies and master planning for terminal infrastructure.
- Support procurement processes by preparing RFP documentation and evaluating supplier proposals.
- Lead or support design reviews and ensure alignment with project goals.
- Act as a functional lead for Civil Managers on dedicated projects.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external consultants to ensure successful project delivery.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for marine and civil infrastructure across global terminals.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience
- Minimum 10 years in civil/marine engineering, with a strong background in large infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in port or container terminal environments is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to work across regions and manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
- Strong understanding of port equipment and its interface with infrastructure.
- Experience in risk assessment and mitigation in challenging environments.
Education
- MSc or BSc in Civil or Marine Engineering.
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities in multicultural settings.
- Ability to define concepts and translate them into actionable plans and budgets.
- High attention to detail, quality, and safety.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken) at a business level.
- Self-motivated, results-driven, and disciplined.
