The Investment Team

APM Terminals Investment team is responsible for setting the portfolio strategy for a portfolio of 65+ ports and for the execution of projects that are the results of this portfolio strategy. The projects include mergers & acquisitions, divestments, terminal expansion projects, public tenders for port concessions etc. Within the Investment team the Principal - Investment is responsible for the portfolio strategy and execution of portfolio projects in APM Terminals.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Identify, structure, negotiate, close and prepare for the integration process for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and new projects, with a specific focus on Growth of the portfolio.

  • Identify leads via networking, events and/or other sources and establishes and develops relationships with executives within targeted markets and sectors.

  • Assess the commercial attractiveness and feasibility of investments, make recommendations to Senior Management on divestment/investment decisions and prepare proposals for.

  • Manage the project team in cooperation with requisite responsible functions and review of the respective functional input with a critical eye and ability to challenge (Commercial, OPS, Civil etc).

  • Provide communication planning and relevant presentation material on the investment value proposition for both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Manages the due diligence processes (including relevant third party stakeholders) for area of scope.

  • Executes on portfolio plays and resolutions. Is the business partner to the relevant business leaders and ensures the bottom up strategies are in line with the global portfolio strategy.

  • Together with business leaders and senior management develops the business development and investment strategies in specific areas.

  • Comfortable and experienced in meeting and negotiating with high level government officials and other external stakeholders.

  • Maintain market awareness regarding market developments, supply/demand, pricing, competition etc., through internal and external sources and networking

  • Develop and manage Project/Opportunity Pipeline.

  • Proactively work independently to deliver business objectives and understanding the barriers to success, creatively driving solutions.

  • Provide detailed industry and competitor information and analysis to management.

  • Analyses existing contracts/concessions and suggests improvements.

We are looking for

Qualification and background

  • Master’s degree in Logistics, Law, Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, MBA preferred.

  • Consistent experience within the job scope, 10-12 years increasing responsibility.

  • 6-8 years direct project leading experience in a multi- national company.

  • Experience with the port and shipping market.

Skills and experience

  • Advanced negotiation skills and ability to conduct negotiations in an international environment. Proven ability to negotiating/closing of deals.

  • Proven ability of stakeholder management with Governments (Port Authorities preferred)

  • Proven ability with multi-partner deals (Joint Ventures, Institutional finance, Government & Industrial).

  • Preferably with a proven network of stakeholders in the industry

  • Knowledgeable with the dynamics of concessions and joint ventures and preferably

  • Experienced with large infrastructure projects.

  • Ability to swiftly act between multiple projects with demanding deadlines.

  • Thinks and acts strategically at shareholder level, as well as on operating level.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills at executive level (both verbal and written). Possess empathy, personal tact, and multi-cultural understanding. Strong networker and relationship manager.

  • Finance skills including experience and knowledge of valuation, modelling, synergy quantification, risk and upside evaluation.

  • Strong analytical mind and ability to solve problems and overcome business and legal constraints.

  • High level of initiative and responsibility, self-reliant action.

  • English fluency written and spoken.
