Working Student Curves & ESG Methodology
Would you like to gain valuable experience in the domain of curve construction and the economic scenario generator (ESG) in Aegon’s methodology team? Are you analytical, a self-starter and detail-oriented? Then perhaps you will be our new working student!
The job in a nutshell
Aegon is exposed to various risks, for example due to changes in interest rates of equity markets. Changes in interest rates or equity prices affect the value of Aegon’s investments and liabilities (the products that Aegon sells). To value Aegon’s assets and liabilities under various scenarios, discount curves are needed. In some cases, a large number of possible economic conditions need to be simulated with an economic scenario generator to calculate the value of products with embedded investment guarantees.
The Curves & ESG domain is responsible for developing the methodology behind the construction of discount curves and the economic scenario generator. The team also runs the various models on a monthly basis. You will assist in running the models, which requires a keen eye for detail, and reporting the output to various stakeholders. Moreover, you will support in testing model changes that have been implemented by the model development team and will document testing results. If you are comfortable with presenting model change results to management, you will have the opportunity to do so.
This is your future position, because you:
- Are currently studying for a master’s degree in a quantitative field, such as econometrics, mathematics, physics, or quantitative finance;
- feel energised by working for a large financial institution;
- work detail-oriented and structured;
- are a talent in documenting;
- are experienced with excel (experience with programming would be a plus);
- are available for at least 3 days a week starting from August 2023 for a minimum of 6 months.
Who will be your new colleagues?
You will be working under the direct supervision of the Financial Risk Management methodology team and you will have colleagues with significant experience in quantitative modelling. The FRM methodology team is responsible for a wide variety of models at Aegon, including some of the key models underlying Aegon’s capital calculations.
What will you be getting?
- A working student allowance of €2435 based on 40 hours a week;
- A personal laptop from the office you can borrow during your time at Aegon;
- Personal guidance by one of our professionals;
- Free membership at Young Aegon;
- A chance to join our onboarding program for new colleagues and get a broader perspective of our organization.
